My Fiance and I are going to Greece for our honeymoon in June!  We’re planning to visit Santorini, Naxos, Mykonos, and Athens.  I highly reccomend the travel book “Rough Guide to the Greek Islands” – I checked out about four books from the library and I think that one has the best info.

We’re booking through Fantasy Travel of Greece (http://www.fantasytravelofgreece.com/index.php) – they have a couple of different honeymoon packages, but we’re doing the Create Your Own trip.  The woman I’ve worked with has been great about emailing me back within 24 hours and is really informative.  I was worried about using a travel agent in Greece (instead of a local agent) but it’s been great so far.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

I used Fantasy Travel as well. I believe we dealt with a woman named Vicki. Basically we told her where we wanted to go and she came back to us with several options of different hotels and price points. They arrange all the transfers and ferries so it’s really stress-free for us. We also contacted Travel2Greece and dealt with Faye. The prices and hotels were similar but in the end we booked with Fantasy because I prefered the hotel in Santorini better.

Oh and to your second post: early May is considered “early season” so it shouldn’t be too croweded.

Just make sure you research the consequences the current political/economic crisis there will have on any arrangements you make.

High season is July – August, I believe.  May should be fine, but the water may not be warm enough for swimming yet.

May is the perfect time to go to Greece, I spent a few weeks there last May (middle to end of May) and the weather was beyond perfect, but the crowds were small. Even a few weeks later into June everything can be completely jammed, I can’t even imagine seeing places like Santorini that crowded. Also, if you like a good walk, I highly recommend hiking from Fira to Oia on Santorini. Do it in the morning, start around 9 or 10, the view is unforgetable.

Obviously the islands are amazing, and if you have time, I would suggest Meteora in the north. Just google image search it, it’s incredible. We did some hiking up there.

I recommend Travel Place as a travel agent, they’re an American agency and not a tour operater, so they can plan anything you want, not just what their company offers. http://www.travelplaceinc.com/our-experts/

Lisa is extremely helpful.

We just went and had several locals tell us August is the craziest time of year. We went late April. Next time I would do late May/early June just because there were several things that weren’t open yet and it was a little chilly for the beach in Santorini.

And several people warned us of the political situation before we left, and we encountered no problems from it in Athens or Santorini.
