We fly into London at the beginning of June – going to spend 3 or 4 days there, then we have another 17 days. We are thinking either the greek ilands – 5 days Mykonos, 4 days Naxos, 6 days Santorini, then flying back to london. Or going to Italy, Tuscany region. We can’t decide!!! What are the pros/cons to both and why would you chose one country over the other for a honeymoon? We know 2 couples that just go back from the Greek Islands on their honeymoons and loved it (they just said not to spend any time in Athens because of the financial crisis, but you can fly direct to the Islands).

I’m doing both, hopefully!!! If my fiance can take enough days off work, we want to do 1 week in Italy and 1 week in Greece. If not, we are going to do Italy because of the history. i think either way, you’d have a blast because both countries are beautiful have have plenty to do.

It depends on what you’re mainly interested in, but Italy has everything – history, art, beautiful beaches, lovely lakes, wonderful food. If you go to Tuscany, you can also include Rome in your travel plan bc it’s quite close.

We’ve gone to both on trips and honeymooned in Itlay. I would only go to the Greek Islands if I ever went back to Greece. Mind you we had horrible timing it appeared and landed the day of the airport strike and so not only were we delayed for hours in Rome but when we arrived our taxi lied and ripped us off. He said there were protests on our street and would drop us off at the station closest to our hotel… turned out to be closest to the airport and furthest from the hotel all for a flat rate of 30 euros for 10 min ride. This was also during the protests against the gov’t so there was a lot of scary situations of tear gas and gas masks and police motorcades. We stayed in the neighbourhood closest to Plaka but not Plaka. There were drug dealers on our street, prostitutes trying to jump into cars day and night (cars don’t stop at stop signs for that reason), and the day we left people were pushing a car down the street that had been broken into. It wasn’t a cheap hotel either and we weren’t in Omonia, which is a worse area if you can imagine. If you can afford both and can say in Plaka Athens then go for it because MOST of Greece is beautiful, they’re just going through a rough time. If you skip Athens and go straight for the Islands then that’s even better because you can just day trip to Athens to see the Acropolis. Of course I know our trip was pretty exceptional and isn’t the norm but just be very cautious of which area you stay in if you go to Athens.
However, I can’t speak highly enough about Italy. We did Venice, Verona, Florence, Pisa, Almalfi, Capri, and Sicily in 2 weeks. Anyways, it was great!

I would like to see as much and go to as many different places as I can in two weeks but don’t want to over do it or not have enough time each city. In order to visit Crete, Athens, Rome and Venice in 15-16 days, we would only spend 3 nights in each city.

I have’t been to Greece, but I would go back to Italy in a heartbeat. I’ve looked into Greece, and it is beautiful and I plan on going at some point (especially Santorini), but I think you would get a lot more out of Italy and we’re going to the Maldives and then Italy for our honeymoon because of all it offers in comparison to Greece. Italy really does have endless possibilities. I agree with framarianna; it has EVERYTHING. I have a Pinterest board saved for travels, and I can’t tell you how many photos from Italy I have… TOTALLY by accident. haha. I just would pin the most gorgeous places, and yeah… Beaches, cliffs, mountains, valleys, history, architecture… And don’t forget the food ;D

I went to Italy for my honeymoon. 2 weeks in Venice, Florence, Rome, Naples, Capri, Amalfi coast. It was amazing. We toured museums, ate delicious food, drank wine, and ate Gelato.

I really really want to go to Greece but the country is a mess right now.. You should be very concerned for your safety. It is not a stable place right now you’d be better off waiting until things (hopefully) start getting better. Yea it’s a gorgeous place but you need to research into what’s happening politically/economically. My parents unfortunately honeymooned in Jamaica right when a revolution started. So just be realistic about what’s going on and put safety first.

Greece all the way, I’ve been to many countries and Greece is in my top 3, Italy it my least. The people in Greece are so nice and warm. The beaches are to die for too.
