I second Ephesus. I did a Greek islands tour with a stop at Kusadasi (to go to nearby Ephesus) as the only Turkish part, but it was by far my favourite!
I was also unimpressed by Athens. I loved the rest of the places in Greece that we visited, but not Athens. It was just kind of forgettable.

@Meowkers: You didn’t offend me. 🙂 I just disagree with your assertion that it isn’t worth more than a day. There are so many museums (the new Acropolis museum is amazing for example, and this is only one of many). There are lots of people who are interested in our rich history and who dream of coming to these museums.
The outdoor ancient Epidavros theater where you can see ancient Greek plays or musical performances is jaw dropping and awe inspiring.
I won’t go on and on, but I’m just saying there are several cultural activities/attractions and also that there are many beautiful areas of the city to explore.
Of course we are all entitled to our opinions, I just wanted to offer a different perspective.
@techie: Wonderful! Let me know if I can help you plan that part of your trip 🙂

Thanks all for your input!
I’ve known some people who have travelled there the past year, wasn’t sure how much the unrest impacted the tourist areas. Perhaps I’ll have to speak to a travel agent more about that.
