Right now our plan is that cocktail hour will begin immediately after the ceremony in a different location, but it will be in the same location as the reception. The wedding party (including the groom and myself) will not be showing up until the cocktail hour is over with. My question is who will/could greet these guests when they walk into the venue? How can we make it more welcoming and less awkward? Will they know to first go to the escort card table so they can find their seats?
Or am I completely overthinking this …along with everything else haha….

My SIL did a cocktail hour, she had two of her friends husbands guiding everyone to where they should go. She didn’t want anyone that would be in pics. Maybe you have a few friends that could help out?

@bdockery: is there a family member or close friend who will be there who can greet your guests and direct them to the escort table?

Can you put the escort table really close to the door they’d come in? I don’t think this will be awkward at all. The bride and groom and other important people aren’t usually present at cocktail hour so I’m sure your guests will be used to it.

Thank you everyone, I think that sounds like a great plan: escort table very close to the door, and having friends/family members help the guests find their way.

I was just at a wedding this weekend where the bride and groom did not arrive for cocktail hour. The escort table was the first thing you saw when you walked into the room. It was also right next to the bar, so you really couldn’t miss it.
