We’ve got our e-pic session on Sunday and it’s been terrible weather all week. It’s raining now, and it’s just generally been murky and grey. On Sunday there’s a 40% chance of rain, but even if it doesn’t rain I’m sure it won’t be pretty. There is a huge, gross cloud hovering over Japan that won’t disappear for a while. I think cloudy e-pics are great but I’m not talking cloudy, I’m talking full on dark, cold, gross day. Have you seen any examples of great e-pic session where the sky was grey? We have until the end of the day to reschedule our session and I am thinking I might just do that unless I can be convinced otherwise!

If you feel better about rescheduling, you should do that…BUT overcast skies make for really gorgeous pictures a lot of the time! Lots of sunlight can wash out colors, whereas a cloudy day can make them really pop! And I just love photos with colorful umbrellas and rain boots in the event that you have a shower. If it were me, I would keep the appointment, but you have to do what makes you feel comfortable. I hope either way it goes great!

I love wedding photography, and rainy day weddings and engagements are some of the cutest pictures.

Oh the pictures with rain boots and umbrellas are so cute!

Imagining a grey day in the background with some bright colors on, like red or fuschia or turquoise or yellow…just sounds AWESOME. Honestly, I’m kinda jealous. If your photographer is good you can definitely get some awesome photos out of your session.

I emailed our photographer to ask what he thought of our weather situation and if it could make for dynamic and dramatic pictures. It’ll be interesting to see what he says!

I like a bit of sunshine and blue skies personally but there’s also no guarantee you’ll get that next time either. Are you planning to do a city shoot or will you be more rural? I think grey could work, especially if you have an ice fog on a field or lake. Good thinking asking your photographer!

We are doing a very very urban shoot. It’s also cherry blossom season so we were gonna go to the park and get some sunset pictures in, except when it’s this grey there isn’t a sunset… just murky grossness that fades into black. Maybe I’m just being negative but I can’t picture what I wanted in this weather at all. I know things might not change next weekend but it’ll be just my luck if it’s nice and clear!
I got a response back and it looks like he’s booked next weekend anyway, and that weekend is the last for the cherry blossoms to be out. He said as long as we stay dry it won’t be a problem, and that sunny days cast tricky shadows anyway. He said everything would be fine unless there’s some kind of tropical storm, but it’s hard for me to think that way. I guess I’m really gonna have to trust that my photog knows what he’s doing!
I’ll be sure to post my urban Tokyo, gloomy day e-pics when they are ready!
