Hey bees
I am still struggling with my decision on the tuxs/suit. I love the look so much, but I am just wondering if i am going to hate myself for picking them in 2 or 3 years time. So what do you think, Grey classic or trend???

oh – that never crossed my mind that grey was a trend. I think it’ll stay classic. We’re going with grey suits too!

I LOVE the look of gray suits and want them so bad. But around here gray suit rentals are twice as much as the black. I don’t feel comfortable asking our guys to spend that much money on a suit for one day. So we are doing black.

Im so torn, I like them both, my colors are blush pink and champange. My dress is ivory (a very light ivory, almost looks white). I love the vintage feel but im just so nervous to make a mistake. My girls dresses have the high low hemline which im contemplating cutting off to just make them all short lol I have been so indecicive.

I’ve never thought of grey as being a trendy colour for a suit. I mean, there were grey suits in the 1950s too…so I’d say classic.

@larissamarie19: We got grey because we are having a summer wedding. If we were having a fall or winter wedding we probably would have done black. I’m pretty sure it will stay classic- my dad has always had grey suits (20 years that I remember) so I don’t think it’s something you will look back on as a trend.

I think kind of both. Grey suits are classicl, but not for formal occasions, where traditionally black is worn. I however don’t like black for a day-time, summer wedding, and so we’re going with grey. OH is going to be splurging on a good-quality designer suit that he can wear again afterwards.
In the evening however we’re considering an ‘outfit change’ for him, as well as other members of the Bridal Party, into tuxes, as I think they’re much more appropriate for the evening reception than a grey lounge suit, and he looks unbelievably handsome in a tux. The reason he won’t be wearing one during the day is a) because I think black will be too heavy, as I said above, and b) it’s not technically correct to wear one during the day, and he’d get a few raised eyebrows.

I think light gray is a trend – charcoal gray is classic. Morning suits (which are the most formal you can get for daytime weddings, I think) have gray pinstriped trousers and a charcoal gray coat.

My dad and his groomsmen wore grey tuxes in 1987 and thats what we’re having for our wedding in 2013. I think that shows its classic! Our are not light grey though. Maybe light grey is more “trendy”?

@BulldogBride: Where in MI are you that grey is so much more? Where have you looked?
Love grey. We’re doing charcoal because it’s much more appealing to me than black, especially for summer.

@vorpalette: I’m in OH and grey was more for us as well. Unfortunately we had to go with a chain store because our wedding is in Wisconsin and we didn’t have a chance to check out Wisconsin shops (okay I didn’t plan very well) when we were there. Even a local shop we checked out in WI told us that grey would have been more expensive. That being said we didn’t shop around to much because of our situation, but other local shops might have had gray for the same price as black.

@vorpalette: I am in the Eastern UP. We only have one tux shop around here and they want $225 for gray suits and around $120 for black. I am trying to avoid having to go into Canada or below the bridge because it can be a such a hassle. $225 is more than my girls spent on their dresses and they get to keep them! I also looked online at buying them and it comes out to about the same for a decent suit.

A gray suit is a classic for a semi-formal event in the daytime, especially outdoors in warm weather.
It’s more about where and when this color of suit is appropriate to wear, rather than if it’s trendy or not. The color itself is not trendy, but it can look inappropriate if used in the wrong situation. If gray suits being worn inappropriately (e.g. to a white tie evening affair) is trending right now, then yes, that’s definitely a trend.
