So I’m co-hosting a bridal shower for my sister’s upcoming wedding with two of my cousins. I found this wedding dress cupcake cake that I wanted to have for her shower but we’re going to be a bit crunched for time to make it ourselves so we were just going to order it.
We talked to an actually cupcake store and they wanted $88 for it! We were shocked, to say the least. So we talked to a Marsh (grocery store) bakery department and they’ll make it for $22 (much more reasonable).
One of my cousin’s thinks this is fine while the other is concerned that grocery store cupcakes is a bit of a no-no for a bridal shower. I have my opinions but wanted to see which side of the equation the Hive falls to.
Are grocery store cupcakes alright for a bridal shower?

@Mrs.KMM: My Future Mother-In-Law got married in my backyard and I purchased her wedding cake from Kroger. I find Kroger, Costco, and Meijer (grocery chain in Michigan) to have delicious cake! I would be perfectly happy to have cupcakes from there for my bridal shower!

@Mrs.KMM: I think it’s fine. Sure I’d prefer homemade but I’m not turning down a cupcake if its tasty.
I voted maybe because One of our local grocers has a fantanstic bakery another not so much. As long as they are tasty and all is well.

If it’s good enough for me to serve at my wedding reception, then it’s good enough to serve at a bridal shower. People regularly serve grocery store cakes at weddings and showers in my area. We have Publix and everyone loves their cake and cupcakes!

I voted perfectly fine – but I may be biased because I had grocery store cupcakes at my wedding!

I think it’s fine! Cupcakes, nom nom. I had a baby shower for a friend and the Kroger bakery prepare the cupcakes; they did a great job and looked/tasted fantastic. 🙂 Nobody will know where you got them unless you tell them.

I don’t think $88 is too much for a fancier pull apart cupcakes. Personally I don’t like supermarket frosting (its usually not buttercream). The cake are usually just ok. Anyway I’d go with the bakery.

Why wouldn’t it be fine? Cake is well cake….

As long as they taste good; I don’t see the problem!

It is totally okay. There is one particular grocery store chain around here that has the BEST cupcakes! Plus, it’s always the thought that counts! There is a lot that goes into planning a shower and I’m sure the bride will appreciate every bit!

As long as they are tasty, who cares where they are from?

I’ve had some darn good grocery store cupcakes. I say go for it!

I think it’ll be fine! Sample a few of their cupcakes to see how you like the taste — unless it’s explicitly marked “whipped cream”, they are probably using some sort of buttercream frosting. You will also have the opportunity to order whatever flavor and frosting you would prefer.

I think the taste is what is more important.

My wedding cake was from a grocery store. It really doesn’t matter as long as it tastes good.
