What sort of prices did you find when you looked at grocer store cakes? Did you get the price per person from them, or did you have to calculate for yourself how much you needed?

I looked at one store close to my house and they had a set price per size of the tier and they also had an estimate chart for how many each kind and size would feed.
We are going to be using Pick N Save Metro Market. We tested them out with a cake for my nieces first birthday party (adorable cake in the shape of a HUGE cupcake) and it was TO DIE FORRRRRRRRR. Best buttercream frosting ever, and moist soft cake base. YUM. Score!
*Oh, and for 100$ we are getting a small cake (to cut) and then sheet cake. So it should feed way more than 70 ppl… but we are only having 70 ppl! Left overs?!*
We got our cake from Publix…it was around $350 for a 3 tier cake that served 150 people.
I hear safeway does cakes now as well- we picked up a brochure the other day- then again we are interested in flan cakes (you know, the ones with the fruit on top?)
I think its a great thing to look into! And yes, I concur, they seem very reasonable when you think of the price per person, or per slice.
haha I have never heard of any of those stores 🙂
I know our local Hannaford does them and they have the yummiest cake in the area. Wow that makes my area sound bad.
We are doing cupcakes instead. The price is $62 for 100 cupcakes and then $9.99 for a six inch cutting cake.
I love Publix cakes! The closest Publix is about an hour away from where we live, so I may have to take a road trip. They are completely worth it.
I think grocery store cakes are the best! Walmart’s cake is incredible, believe it or not. I’m not a fan of fondant, so I prefer just plain buttercream.
The only downside is a lot of grocery stores don’t do specialty flavors or fillings. Some do, but it’s mostly just cake flavor and icing flavor.
@Miss Otter: Can I just say how jealous I am that you’re getting a Metro Market cake? My brother got a Metro Market cake for my dad’s retirement party last Saturday. That cake has to be the best grocery store cake in all of Milwaukee, better than some of the well known bakeries around! I had a few bites, looked at my mom and said, “I want this cake at my future baby shower!” Seriously, it’s some of the best cake I’ve ever had.
