It they get black suits, you’ll be fine renting whatever. Charcoal could get iffy, so I would just go with black. My Fiance was in a wedding where they all wore black with the groom in grey and it looked awesome.

My Fiance has gone for a slightly darker grey Ted Baker suit, and for his groomsmen we went to Next (UK Brand) and got lighter grey suits for about £120 each.  FI also purchased the matching Next waistcoat for himself to tie them together.

stokesto:  Personally, I would avoid black suits since black is traditionally more formal than grey and they may look out of place next to a groom wearing grey.

I would just take his jacket or pants to Men’s Wearhouse and choose a grey that matches closely. Then let the GMs know which suit he requests. You could also do the same thing at Macys and send the GMs a link to the suit, many of them are less than $150.

DH wore a suit not too far removed in colour from that one, and his Groomsmen both wore black suits (they owned them and we didn’t want them to have to buy another).  It looked fine.  I would think so long as you rent suits in a similar cut and style, black will be absolutely no problem.
