Any thoughts on groom tux shoes? Do the men have to wear the patent shoes or will suit shoes be okay? None of the men liked the patent shoes and found them uncomfortable. Is it a faux pas or anything like that if they don’t wear them and just have nice black suit shoes?

You’re in the clear: it’s not a faux pas. Highly polished black oxfords are just fine. The plainer the better. Wingtips start to get a bit too business-casual. Loafers are a no.
Just make sure the fellas shine the heck out of them the day before. And they should use the heel and edge dressing to give the heel and edges the uniform black color that will make them look brand new. Heck it could be a fun little man excursion to go somewhere to get their shoes shined together.

my fi is doing a ‘basket weave’ shoe… they are kinda neat and a bit more casual than the solid patent i think 🙂
