I have seen lots of different things from a white dress shirt with khakis to full out suits. My fiance and I are stumped as to what he should wear. We don’t particularly care for thelook of a khaki suit, which is a common from what I have seen on the beach.
I will be in a gown so he should look up to par with me, but I don’t want him miserable in a full suit in the warm weather.
What did your groom wear on the beach? And was he happy with it and comfortable?

@freshflowers: Quite a few couples have used Studio Suits to have a linen suit custom made. http://www.studiosuits.com
Men in tropical climates do wear suits. They are just constructed entirely differently so they aren’t so hot. Grey would be a nice alternative to khaki.
or a linen vest and pants combination

Beige linen would be my choice (much lighter than khaki).

I”m a huge fan of light grey suits. You can have the suit made with lighter material so it’s not as hot (what the PP mentioned).
It really depends on how you want your photos to turn out. Some wear a button down with dress pants, others prefer a jacket too! 🙂

I think you should go with the vest option instead of suit jackets. Light grey or champagne coloured linen vests would work great – check out this pic
I know someone who bought vests and pants like this quite affordably at Le Chateau (not sure if they have that store where you’re located) because they didn’t have anything this cool at regular suit shops. And they looked awesome!

The groom could also wear a seersucker suit or just the jacket and a pair of linen pants.

@freshflowers: We went a little more casual for our mexico beach wedding. We both wanted Darling Husband to look nice, but not be all hot & sweaty- that’s a hard thing to do in 90+ degrees! We thought about khaki’s but they just weren’t quite right as he wears khaki’s alot already. We ended up going with a light grey suit pant from Marc Jacobs at Kohls. They had a very nice slight sheen to them so they weren’t just a flat color. We decided to get him a plain white short sleeve button up as well. We found alot of very nice long-sleeve button ups with cool patterns on the cuff, but if you roll the cuff all the way you can’t see the pattern =(. It took a while to find the perfect white shirt, but we finally found one just a month before the wedding. We added in some grey boat shoes & purple socks to match my petticoat too…
Here’s his full get up- he loved it and said he stayed pretty cool considering! We didn’t have the budget for a full suit, no-where to rent it from in our area, and he would never have worn it again. He wears his grey wedding suit pants when we go out to nice dinners.

@freshflowers: Its really up to him what he wants to wear….have you asked him?
My Darling Husband wanted to wear a suit….his was pretty light weight and I think he looked very handsome! Our wedding was on a roof top terrace and then we went down to the beach for pics. Our wedding was in St Thomas in October. It was about 78-80( overcast) that day and he was completely ok in the suit. He took off the jacket for the reception.

@freshflowers: My husband wore a white linen suit with a lime green button up shirt underneath.

@freshflowers: If you’re in a gown, he should be in a suit, and tie.
A linen suit is a great idea, in a light, summery colour. A light grey, wool suit is also a classic, in warm weather. A light grey suit is a summer suit; you really can’t get away with that colour in winter, so it only makes sense to get a summer weight wool. They do exist, you just don’t see it that often in off the rack suits, because they tend to make those in a year round weight. It’s even more difficult to find a winter weight suit in off the rack.
When you’re looking for wool, you’re looking for 9 oz. weight, at maximum. 7-8 is better, and, depending on where you live, you may want even lighter.
Do you have a ballpark budget for the suit?

@freshflowers: They could wear a Guyabara which traditional Caribbean formal wear. Check out this article for more details. I love the articles on this site.

@BeckyS0: I love the purple shoes and underskirt! Really pops 🙂
We are having a sort of beach wedding… it’s at the beach but not *on* the beach. SO is planning to wear a nice teal coloured guayabera shirt (Mexican wedding shirt) and off white linen pants. It’s not completely decided yet, but I do love the casual but smart look of linen at the beach.

@Anonette: Oh I was just writing up my own post about guayabera shirts! I love them 🙂
