So as it turns out I have enough money in the budget to buy a grooms cake, which I’m trilled about. I found this awesome R2D2 cake which I love. The cake designer I picked actually did a Yoda cake that was in her portfolio (the cake pictured below is the one she made). When I showed my friend she said that I should just do the Yoda cake because it’s so awesome. Now I’m confused on what to do. The R2D2 Cake seems a little more elegant, and I feel a little weird about eating Yoda. But I think the Yoda cake might have a bigger wow factor. I know my fiance would love either one, so I kinda want to do the one that would be more impressive. Which one would you bees pick?

i’d feel weird about eating yoda. it’s a great looking cake but not very appetizing… kind of like the armadillo cake in steel magnolias.

Is there a significant price difference between the two? If not, the Yoda cake is more impressive and artistic, but not overly appetizing looking. Does your Fiance have a preference? Maybe let him pick?

The price would actually be the same for both of them. I’m doing the cake as a surprise so he doesn’t know about it. He is really into Star Wars so I’m sure he would love either cake. I do agree about Yoda not looking appetizing though.

I love that you are doing this as a surprise! You just gave me the idea for my Fiance. 🙂 Sorry hope we didn’t shoot you down to badly… I think they’re both cool!

Price being equal, I would go with the Yoda! It is awesome, especially if that is a representation of her exact work. The other one is ok, but looks too much just like a modified version of a regular cake.

@calibee79: +1. Yoda doesn’t look appetizing to me

Hope this doesn’t sound stupid, but I have never really watched Star Wars. Yoda is recognizable to people who don’t know the movie. I technically know who R2D2 is, but I don’t know if you didn’t tell me that’s what the cake was, I don’t think I would’ve known. It is a good representation, but not as recognizable.
For that reason, I would probably go with Yoda (but the green/brown icing does kind-of gross me out.)
I think they are both really well done, and I’m sure your fiance will LOVE it!

I love the R2D2 cake! 🙂 What a sweet surprise!

How much do they charge for each out of curiosity?

I was liking the R2D2 🙂 Either one is awesome!

@kes18: $365 and then there is going to be a $50 delivery fee (Both cakes would serve 50 people). I’m in the Chicago land area so IDK if the prices are inflated at all. But the company I’m going with does amazing work. I contacted a different bakery too and was quoted $400 for the R2D2 cake serving 40 people.

@MrsPBandJ: I didn’t think of this as an option. Lol, my first reaction is that eating an Ewok sounds more unappealing than eating Yoda, because they’re just so cute!
But, I did find this amazing cake:
It looks like names are engraved into the “tree” part, and I love that idea. I might have to reconsider!

I was joking, but the initials in the tree would be too cute and Ewoks are my fave.
Good luck deciding. I hope which ever is delish. Question: how would you cut Yoda?
