I chose to have our groom’s cake be a surprise for my husband at the rehearsal dinner. So much of the wedding stuff focuses on the bride, and I wanted the Rehearsal Dinner to kind of be “his” night. Plus, it provided dessert for the Rehearsal Dinner, so it was practical as well as sentimental.

I agree with you that if you aren’t doing a traditional wedding cake, the groom’s cake may seem a little out of place at your reception. Sounds like the Rehearsal Dinner will be the perfect spot for it!

I am also having the groom’s cake presented at rehearsal dinner as a surprise for my Fiance.

My Fiance really wanted ice cream cake at the wedding but I put my foot down because it would just be too much of a logistical nightmare. I always had in the back of my mind that I would surprise him with an ice cream cake at the Rehearsal Dinner but I finally had to tell him because he wouldn’t stop talking about it. Oh well, no surprise but he’ll still get his groom’s ice cream cake.Smile

We did it at the wedding. All the guests liked looking at it and not too many people were allowed at my rehearsal dinner so I didn’t have it there.
