I really dislike cake so I am totally out of my element. We are having homemade cupcakes at the wedding in place of cake because I really don’t care about cake, and I was thinking about doing a groom’s cake as dessert at the Rehearsal Dinner. I think the groom’s cake may look silly at our wedding since we won’t have a traditional bride’s cake. What do you think?
Also, for bees that have done this, how far ahead of time do you order the groom’s cake? Really early like the wedding cake or a month or two before?

I chose to have our groom’s cake be a surprise for my husband at the rehearsal dinner. So much of the wedding stuff focuses on the bride, and I wanted the Rehearsal Dinner to kind of be “his” night. Plus, it provided dessert for the Rehearsal Dinner, so it was practical as well as sentimental.
I agree with you that if you aren’t doing a traditional wedding cake, the groom’s cake may seem a little out of place at your reception. Sounds like the Rehearsal Dinner will be the perfect spot for it!

I am also having the groom’s cake presented at rehearsal dinner as a surprise for my Fiance.

My Fiance really wanted ice cream cake at the wedding but I put my foot down because it would just be too much of a logistical nightmare. I always had in the back of my mind that I would surprise him with an ice cream cake at the Rehearsal Dinner but I finally had to tell him because he wouldn’t stop talking about it. Oh well, no surprise but he’ll still get his groom’s ice cream cake.

Ok, glad to see that other ladies do the Rehearsal Dinner thing. I definitely prefer it that way – I want to surprise him with it there and it’ll provide the Rehearsal Dinner dessert….plus that way I can have it made for 40 people and not 150!
@abrila: Ha this reminded me of our photo booth. I was going to surprise Fiance with a photo booth at our wedding because he wouldn’t shut up about wanting it. I thought he would back off it, but he never did, so I finally had to tell him. Oh well, it’s not a surprise, but he’s very excited about it!

We did it at the wedding. All the guests liked looking at it and not too many people were allowed at my rehearsal dinner so I didn’t have it there.
