I have a similar situation and am undecided as well.

I’ve always seen it at the wedding.

I debated, but I wanted everyone to see it lol. So I did it at the wedding.

I think the wedding gives it the WOW factor (even more if you are doing a fun one) plus more people can see the cake and can give you a extra flavor you are not getting in the cupcakes!

I had a groom’s cake at the rehearsal dinner as a surprise for my husband. I wanted the rehearsal to be an event that felt like “his,” as so much of the wedding-related events revolve around the bride.

It had the dual purpose of being the dessert at the rehearsal dinner. 🙂

I plan on having the groom’s cake at the rehearsal dinner.

I think we might end up having a birthday/father’s day cake at the rehearsal dinner for my dad (birthday and father’s day) and fiance (father’s day). But now that I think of it, that seems like overkill.

    Hmmmmm… Now I’m unsure

I want it to be a surprise, and we are already having three cakes at the reception (one “bride’s” cake – my flavor, one “groom’s cake – his flavor, and one “wedding” cake – a flavor we both like), so I am doing it at the rehersal. We don’t have dessert planned for the rehearsal and I love cake. We are having a lot of people at the rehersal dinner so most people will see it.

I’m also making it myself (a replica of the guitar I bought him for our engagement) so I don’t want to be stressed out about it the day of the wedding.

While we didn’t have a groom’s cake, I’ve seen it done at both wedding receptions and rehearsal dinners.  I really see it as more of a personal preference kind of thing.

Normally I would suggest the rehearsal as you will already have a cake at the wedding and the groom’s cake likely will go to waste. However, as you are only having cupcakes I would say at the wedding is fine.

We scrapped the groom’s cake idea altogether as it is a pretty big additional expense. My friend and I are baking loads of his favorite cookies (which he prefers over cake) to serve at the rehearsal dinner instead.

great idea!! I was worried about it being wasted at the wedding since we are having a wedding cake station (a unique take on serving wedding cakes at my wedding venue) and we are going to have an ice cream station as well…. never thought of doing it at the rehersal dinner. Awesome ide a- thanks!! I will do this…
