I really want to get a geeky groom’s cake made for my Fiance but I was wondering how many of you Bees had a groom’s cake and are getting a groom’s cake for your husband/FI. And what is the purpose of them honestly. We are already having a wedding cake and I don’t want a ton of cake left over. And can you give it to your Fiance before the wedding? LOL

@lovelylight99:
I think we’ll be doing one, because Fiance wants a sponge cake with cream and jam, and I realllly don’t. So a groom’s cake seemed like a good compromise 😀

We had a grooms cake! These days its to offer a different option from the traditional white cake that wedding cakes usually are, as well as having something to represent your hubby! I got mine a surprise Jamaican rum chocolate cake with his favorite Yankees, topped with baseball strawberries!

i honestly feel like it’s a waste of money. that’s just my opinion though. if you have the extra money to blow then go for it.

We are not doing a grooms cake at the wedding. We are however doing a cake (his choice of flavoring) at the rehearsal.

We will have one. Fiance has Celiac, so we will have a small gluten free groom’s cake for him.

We’re not even having a wedding cake, let alone a grooms cake. Neither of us like cake and everyone always complains about how bad it is, so we decided to do a dessert table followed by a popsicle food truck coming by later in the evening with AMAZING popsicles!

I think it’s a waste of money. I don’t see why a B&G can’t just compromise on 1 cake for a wedding. Cakes are expensive to begin with. Would be fine if a friend was making it for free. But I’m not paying for a separate cake just for the Groom.

@lovelylight99: Haha. I was actually thinking the same thing as you. FI went with me to design/order our cake and was super impressed/intersted in all of the cake desings and thought it was all really cool. FI and his Groomsmen all watch the same anime show (One Piece) so now I really want to order a small one piece themed cake to put in the room for them the morning of as a nice surpise/thank you. I didn’t know if that’s weird or not, so I haven’t decided on it yet.

I think they can be really fun if you have the money and a good idea. I know I’d have to do something comic-book inspired for Fiance. We aren’t doing one because I do think it can be a waste of money. I know he would like it, but I think he would say, “just save that money for the honeymoon.”

@subola: I never thought of doing that…getting a small cake for him and his GMs to share the day of! 🙂 I want a small cake since we have a wedding cake already.
@ashleyr0512: That’s a great idea also, to have a cake for the rehearsal dinner. 🙂

@lovelylight99: My FH could care less about the wedding cake much less the idea of a second groom’s cake. I think this is more of a Southern tradition when the groom’s cake was normally served at the rehearsal dinner and was the groom’s favorite cake and/or decorated is manner to represent the groom. Remember the red velvet armadillo cake from Steel Magnolias?

@lovelylight99: Yeah. We are paying $102 for our cake and then to do a small cake for him and his guys would only be like another $40, so I think I might do it.
