I’ve been on the other side of this situation. 10 years ago my long time SO was in a wedding. We had been dating for over 10 years and living together. I was invited as a guest. All of the other groomsmen had wives or girlfriends but they were all bridesmaids, so my SO was literally the only one in the wedding party who’s partner was not. That is neither here nor there.
I was not invited to the rehearsal dinner. We both thought it was a little weird, since I ended up just sitting in a hotel room. We didn’t ask about it.
Apparently all night my SO had to field questions from the other bridal party members and family of the bride and groom. People kept asking him why I wasn’t there. He felt really uncomfortable because he didn’t want to say I wasn’t invited, he thought it would look like he was complaining.
At one point he overheard someone ask the bride where I was and she lied and said I had to work. The fact that she lied about it just confirms for me that she knew it was rude to leave me in a hotel room while my SO was spending all evening with them.
We broke up 5 years ago and thankfully since they were his friends I haven’t had to see them since. They weren’t very nice people.
