I am guessing a custom tuxedo is not an option? 🙂

Men’s Wearhouse rents (I think) tuxedos in women’s sizes, but judging by the pictures on the brochures I am guessing they are not the sexiest fits around. She could buy a relatively inexpensive tux (although cheaper suits are harder to alter) that fits her shoulders and hips and just tailor the hell out of it.

Stores like Nordstrom carry some designers who may have ladies’ tuxedos, but there probably won’t be a whole lot of options.

My sister did this for her best friend.  She wore a regular tux, with spike heels.  She looked pretty good!  I don’t remember if she wore a male shirt, but if you’re worried about boobs then have her rent all the parts except for the shirt and the shoes.  So she can wear a more feminine shirt and shoes!  You don’t have to rent ALL the parts of the tux from the store.

My daughter is doing this but she is wearing a really feminine jacket with tails and a coloured dress underneath that is more fitted. Personally I would prefer her in the jacket with a black skirt, heels and a coloured blouse so I will have to see when the jacket comes in and I have her in dresses. Most tux shops will adjust jackets to be more form fitting for women but consider a uniform supplier – they often carry womens tuxes for hostess and the like.

I was going to suggest finding something and then trying to alter it, but I have no idea how easy or not that would be. We had a groomswoman but she just wore a black dress like the bridesmaids. At Mr. EB’s cousin’s wedding they had a groomswoman in a tux but I have no idea where she got it from. I loved the look though!

@eggsbenedict: It should be easy for a good tailor; they do it for men’s suits all the time. But it would probably be pricey, because it would be more than just the length of sleeves, waist and length of pants being adjusted; they’d probably also have to narrow the arms and take in the waist.

We didn’t have any groomswomen, but if we did they would have been in the same dress as the bridesmaids, just standing on the opposite side. Our bridesmen wore the same tuxes as the groomsmen. 🙂

@BRbee: Nice. 😉 I assume she is paying for her own attire, right? I’d give her the option of tailoring her own suit, but unless she plans to wear a tux often in her life, chances are she won’t want to spend that kind of money because it won’t actually be an investment piece for her. If she wants to choose between an expensive, well-fitting tux, a less expensive (but still not cheap, because a tux rental can be as much as a bridesmaid dress) and poor-fitting tux, and a black dress that will fit her properly, my guess is she’ll pick the dress.
