I have a lot of family overseas so Fiance and I are planning on having a second wedding in Asia. His immediate family are going to try and make both weddings, but it’s pretty expensive. Have any bees managed to negotiate a group discount for plane tickets? Which airline was it for? Who did you contact and what did you say?

I did this for a corporate trip with jet blue and managed to get a small (under $100) discount fr each ticket for 20-ish people. Most airlines have a contact for group sales – see if you can find the group sales number on the airline’s website or just call customer service. Travel agents are super useful for this kind of thing too.

Just a tip but the group discount is usually much less than waiting for sale fares to come up.

AA.com has a wedding group rate discount code you can apply for. However, it’s only good for 7 days prior and 7 after the wedding date. and for only 5%! Not sure how many people buy a ticket with that short notice!

Thanks for the info everyone! We’re trying to figure out the cheapest way to get everyone over to Asia before we pick a date. I’ll contact some airline companies to see what they say. It’s really hard to schedule a wedding so far in advance.

I contacted our travel agent about group flights and she said you don’t get any kind of discount on the tickets. That didn’t sound right to me, but what do I know.

@bibs2161: Weird. Mine told me the same thing. She tried to discourage me from that option. She made it sound like we all had to be on the same flight. Then I brought up the AA discount for guests which are coming from different origins – and she knew about it, but wasn’t going to suggest it.
….I don’t know….
Maybe they want the price you pay through them to be higher?

We got one with American Airlines for 5%. We can buy the tickets whenever we want, but the travel itself must be complete within 7 days before & 7 days after the wedding date.
