My fiance’s half-sister is going to be our flower girl. Well sort of a junior-bridesmaidish flower girl as she’s right in that middle age group (she’ll be 8). I really want to get her dress so I’m not worrying about it anymore, but I’m not sure what to do about sizing. How soon before should you get a dress?
We’re not ordering a dress in from a store (we’ll just be going off the rack) so my concern is not that. Just sizing with growing children!

Hmm. I’d wait until all the spring dresses go on sale. There is a GOOD chance of her growing… If you bought a dress that was a little too big around late April-early May, she’d be likely to still fit in it in August.

I would definitely wait for 2, maybe 3 months out, but definitely not sooner! I think @LaborofLove’s suggestion is great!

Thanks ladies! I think I’m just itching to get stuff done. Their mom suggested around 4 months out so this sounds like a good plan. 🙂

Generally speaking I always buy clothes for kids 1 size up anyway. That way they can wear it a little longer. 😀
As of now I would hold out another month (if you can) and wait for after Easter sales!

We are buying my 7 years old dress now, so she can wear it for her fist communion and the wedding. It is not going to be floor length so if she has a growth spurt it will still work, it also has a ribbon around the waist so we can tighten it now, but there will still be a little room to grow. At this age she usually just hits an occassional growth spurt, but isn’t growing as fast as she did when she was younger, it kind of levels out I think. I am definately more worried about guessing for my 18month old. She’s really petite for her age, so it is more of a guessing game if she’ll really start to grow. We are getting ours from Macy’s and if you wait I am sure you can find cute ones on sale after Easter.

I am dealing with this problem too! Although my wedding is only 3 months away and the flower girl is 2.5 years old. But her father (FI’s Brother and BM) said that she is growing ‘like a weed’. He also is very hard to get in touch with and we have to order the dress NOW, so I don’t know what size to get! I just guessed and am crossing my fingers…

Yeah, I’m definitely going to go for a shorter dress since that is what my sisters will be wearing! I didn’t even consider after Easter sales. Good call!
