And um…price chose my venue. It’s not überfancy but we aren’t fancy people. Getting married in a park surrounded by wood and ferns then a reception in a recently renovated place, good food and a great party. The end! Lol!

We chose our first one that I still am in love with because of the atmosphere of the venue. We would have to do minimal decorations, it was stunning on its own and was a great clean backdrop for photos (floor to ceiling windows and hardwood floors). We had to cancel that due to a financial emergency but I love our other venue just 2% less. We got it because of the price but it was accesible to everyone and easier to allow movement. It had more elevators, less distance between spaces, bathrooms convenient to all spaces being used and not down a long hallway. It also has a goregous and massive fireplace that I am drooling over, but does still have the clean background as the first location. Clean backgrounds were a thing I wanted, neutral walls, windows with no blinds or draping to date it, hardwood floors and tall ceilings. Accessibility was the second choice since we didnt want people wasting time walking around locating things or hating the long walk to the bathroom

we both just ‘knew’ it was a super weird, totally intangible thing.  When we were there, it was like “here is where we’re going to have our reception!”  Didn’t feel that way at other places.

ETA: I know this sounds super cliche, but it’s true!

@happilyeveraftergirl:  We chose our venue based on first impression.  The moment we pulled up to the Waldorf Chicago we were like OMG this is amazing, and it just got better as we walked into the lobby, the cocktail area, the ballroom.  We were blown away by it and knew we would get married there.  Especially that we were both so amazed with the place we just knew it was right.

This is my venu (photos from google, not my actual wedding)

Sounds like the Barn is your better option, you want everything to be perfect and beautiful on your wedding day!

@happilyeveraftergirl:  No, just different fees. Originally we were planning for a Sunday wedding, which would have only been $650. But then we decided on a Saturday wedding which jumped the price up to over $1000. Then there was a fee to have pictures taken inside the main part of the building (its a museum, so you have to pay a waver fee or whatever.)

My venue was chosen out of pure luck. I had my heart set on this venue then I was talking to a friend and she told me to look at this other venue. My venue is 625.

It’s a special place to us, and when we first were there (not engaged at that point) we said to each other, “we should get married here someday.” So we are!

@happilyeveraftergirl:  I’m not sure if all museums make you pay a fee for pictures, cause most of them you can take pictures in them all you want. This one though doesnt let you take pictures on tours, so to take pictures for a wedding you have to pay a fee.

we visited a lot of venues (choosing a memorable venue was very important to me), and had an “a-ha” moment with the one we picked.  we’re actually getting married in a winery lol!  what sold us was how pretty the inside space was, and that it was located in a town with the same name as my FI’s!  our reception will be in a wine cellar:

in your situation, I would go with the barn – it seems risky to not know exactly which reception space you’ll get at the winery!

It seems like you’ve already made your choice- the barn.  By the way you talk about the two I can tell that is totally what you want.  For me, it was easy.  One venue just felt right and was a clear fit for our wedding.  It seems like you found your right fit

@happilyeveraftergirl:  we had visited a few venues. and it came down to being what represented us as a couple. we wanted something that was classic and elegant and the overall feel of the place. it was very old fashioned i felt like-more vintage. and with the right centerpieces it really looked so romantic and all that jazz. It worked out really well bc its was so local! It was only a 5 minute drive from our place. And everyone raved about how awesome it was and no one knew this gem was here.

For you, I would go with the barn because if it has ugly decor–and if they have food you are not interested in…why waste the money? The barn sounds so lovely though!

i loved their floor to ceiling windows
