We were going to use my mom’s friend’s friend. She’s not a professional florist but she does what she calls “dumpster diver flowers” so basically when florist shops throw out their flowers, she gets them and makes them pretty again. Totally fine by me, we were going to get 2 alter arragements, 5 bouquets and a bunch of corsages and bouts for $150. Can’t beat that right?
So while dumpster flowers are totally fine for the alter arragements and whatnot, i’d like to have some control over the bouquet flowers so I was going to order those and have them sent to her. I emailed her a couple days ago to get her opinion of the flowers i picked out. This freaked her out. She has no idea how to tell me how many flowers to order (well…how many do you USUALLY put in a bouquet?) or anything so she’s backing out of EVERYTHING. Won’t make ANYTHING for us because i overwhelmed her and she doesn’t know what to do.
I’m not *super* bummed about it. I’m a little disappointed but i’m not big into flowers and i’d totally survive if i didn’t carry a bouquet down the aisle. I’m mostly just annoyed. Our wedding is in 2.5 weeks!!! Bleh. Oh wells. Crazy lady. We won’t be attempting to work with her again and I intend to warn EVERYONE i know about her. I understand she’s not a professional, but nothing changed between when we all agreed and when i sent her the email other than i actually picked out the flowers. If she isn’t comfortable w/ it now, why was she then? why didn’t she say something sooner??
At least it’s not like the caterer or anything. We’ll survive, just wanted to get that out.

I’m sorry – that sucks but it sounds like you’re taking it in stride.
If you do want a boquet to carry – what about just picking up some roses or something at the grocery store?

I am so sorry this happened to you, and so close to the wedding day too.
but for that $150 you WAS going to pay her, cant you do as the pp said and get supermarket flowers, or go and get silk bouquets from a craft store?
i think its terrible not to have told you sooner if she was scared to do it. if you hadnt have emailed her, when WAS she going to tell you she wasnt confident enough to do it, on the morning of your wedding. what a total bitch.

Yea, we have options. We can just pick up flowers at the store or pretty potted plants or something definitely. I’d just be a little embarrassed we wouldn’t have bouts or corsages for the guys and moms and stuff. maybe we can give them a rose to hold on to or something too.

Hell, for $150 you can buy already made bouquets from BridesBouquet.com

there are a million youtube videos on making bouts from fresh or silk flowers, you can totally do it! please try to. enlist your bridesmaids to help you.
silk bouquets cost very little, and they could double up for table decorations afterwards. but fresh flowers from a supermarket would be perfect with just a ribbon tied around the stems….
as for the alter……maybe a tall vase with 2-3 orchids in it…..less is more ya know.

wow I’m proud of your whole attitude towards this, seriously. Hopefully you can do something/find someone that can do it for you even better than she could even imagine. I don’t have any good advice but I am sending you lots of good luck!

I think we’ll manage something. My friend getting married in June’s florist is free that weekend, as is this friend of the lady who bailed on us–though i’m not sure i’m comfortable using her either. Guilty by association sorry.
Silk flowers also looked somewhat appealing but i’d like to see how fresh works out first.

Sounds like she was looking for a way out. Good thing you found out now as opposed to her having a mental breakdown and jumping into another dumpster during your wedding day.

Yikes! I’d totally freak out. My BFF is using a silk bridesmaid flowers and grocery store flowers for her bouquet. You could do something like that.

Silks would be easy to do yourself in the amount of time you have!
You are taking it so well. I wish I could be so level headed 😉
