If the two of you are in your late thirties, I would hope that staying within your budget would be a skill you have acquired by now. This is the time in your life to start some serious retirement planning  if you haven’t already, not spending money you cannot afford on your wedding.

Is there other areas where you can cut down the budget? If not then unfortunately it is just one of those life sucks moment. But don’t worry about it so much. Most people understand that weddings are costly and know that when brides and grooms have small and intimate weddings it is often about finances and not a personal slight.

“Which would you rather have? people with hurt feelings or mounting debt?”

Julies put it very bluntly but very honestly in fact!  I’d personally just go back to the immediate families and call it good.  Is your wedding far away location wise?  Because save the dates may not even be necessary.  Or you can just send them to the MUST-have list of people.  Becuase once you send an STD you cannot undo it.
