So its one week (!) before our wedding, and my creative juices are running really low, so I was hoping for some help with the wording for an explanation card of our alternative to a guestbook.
We’re setting up 5 bottles of wine for each of our first 5 anniversaries (we wanted to do 1, 5, 10, 20, 25, but those were a bit out of our price range right now!) and want our guests to write well wishes or toasts for any or all of them, and then we’ll wait to read them on that anniversary. We have pouches set up around the neck of each bottle to put the notes in.
Any and all creative suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Nothing creative to offer, I think no matter what sort of explanation you write, there will be plenty of people who just won’t get it (I had to read your post twice to get it straight). Get a book and have an attendant stand there and explain it to each person. I wish I would have had someone monitor my guestbook. I did the Polaroid thing and lots of people tried to avoid it.

I got it right away. I think it’s a great idea, but you have more self control than I do: I don’t think I could wait that long to drink the wine!
You could say something simple and straightforward: "We’ll open this bottle of wine on our 5th anniversary. Please write a note to help us remember this day."

I read this on a previous posting here on WB somewhere: "Advice & wishes for the new Mr. and Mrs."
And them maybe you can add something along the lines of what amysue suggested.
