We did a photobooth and it was a huge hit.  Other ideas I liked were the tree with the finger prints and the cards where everyone writes a wish, advice or memory.  One of the bees just covered this on the blog.  I’ll try to find it.

we did a large wooden monogram (my mom drew it out, my dad and I cut it out of wood with a jig saw) and painted it champagne, and then distressed it.  We provided sharpies and white pens for guests to sign it, and we will now hang it in our living room 🙂  Ours was double special because our last name is H, and our first names are J and C.  we did a monogram that looked like this:

so it looked like a J-C and H

I’m actually doing my semi DIY guestbook at the moment. We have a tradiotional book were guest sign on the pages, I’m jazzing it up with mini envelopes and little inserts so that ppl write on the inserts and put them inside the mini envelopes, you can see my process here: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/semi-diy-guestbook-progress-pics

We our guest are signing on a frame that has a picture of my Fiance and I. The picture itself is an 8×10 but the border around it, is huge!! Their is a special pen that they use to sign.

We had our guests sign a custom “movie poster” with our photo on it that I made and had blown up. We had a theater-themed wedding. It is now hanging in our house.

There are lots of great older posts for inspiration.

Just search “guestbook alternatives” here on WeddingBee.

I remembered another!  The vows are written in calligraphy and underneath there are lines just like a traditional guestbook for all the guests to sign as witnesses.  You would then frame that.
