Our wedding will be a simple, casual, backyard picnic type thing. We only have 20 guests coming, and I thought it would be silly to have a traditional style guestbook, when really only about a page of it would get filled.
My idea was to get one of those wooden planks with the bark still on the edges, like a slice of a tree if you ladies know what i’m talking about…then sanding it, and painting a tree on it, with our initials in a heart on the stump, and our wedding date in the grass, then letting guests sign all over it with a sharpie marker, and after the wedding I would spray it with an acrylic clear coat to keep it preserved forever.
Is this an ok idea?

Would they be signing on the tree branches? On leaves? Around the tree?

Another option(totally different direction) you could buy a nice picture frame the kind with matting, pull the matting out and have everyone sign that. After the wedding pick your favorite photo and put it in the frame, everyone’s wishes for you will surround the photo 🙂
Here is an example:
You could do this inexpensively with a Walmart frame or from a craftstore.

That sounds like a totally cute idea
I saw another one I love on pinterest, that would work well for a small wedding- you have a jar of stones, and each guests writes a message on the rock with a sharpie, and they’re displayed in the jar

@likelimade they would be signing on leaves, around the tree, anywhere they choose.
@MaBelleBliss LOVE that stone idea. that looks awesome, but my family is very french and my grandparents were both very uneducated and are for the most part illiterate so I wouldn’t be recieving very many messages 🙁
