Gah, I’m so excited right now!!
My bridesmaids are really spread out and the 8 of us live in 5 different states, so no matter where we decided to have my bachelorette party it was going to mean travel for most people. As soon as I got engaged all my friends were all over me asking where I wanted to have my bachelorette weekend and throwing out ideas for different destinations etc. I felt a little overwhelmed by all of it and wasn’t sure about just choosing a place and expecting my friends to drop $$ to travel wherever I wanted to go for a trip (especially since many of them will have to travel in for the wedding), but that seemed to be what everyone was expecting.
My other friends who’ve gotten married have done destination bachelorette weekends as well (Vegas, DC, etc), but I was nervous about suggesting it (though it was apparently already assumed by all my friends) because I didn’t want to come across like a bridezilla monster. I chose really inexpensive bridesmaid dresses and have been trying to keep costs down for everyone. Once I talked it over with my sister though, she made me realize that even if we wanted to keep it low key and have it locally, the majority of my friends would still have to travel in, so I might as well just pick wherever I truly want to go.
I’m really not a “party animal” get trashed all night, club hopping, plastic penis wearing kind of girl (though I have no problem doing that for anyone else’s bachelorette, it’s just not my preferred scene). I brainstormed a little and decided my ideal bachelorette destination is Charleston, SC. It’s beautiful and full of Southern charm, there are tons of amazing restaurants and cute rooftop bars. We can pool or beach by day if we want and there are lots of fun “girls weekend” type activities like sunset sail cocktail cruises and group Southern cooking classes. It is just really “me” and perfect for the girly bonding weekend I had in mind.
Anyway, I was really nervous to have my sister suggest it but she emailed the idea to the other bridesmaids this morning and everyone replied immediately and they were all over the top SUPER excited about it! She forwarded me their responses and every single one was completely enthusiastic and gushing about how that’s the perfect locale for me and how they can’t wait. My friends are super honest and would totally say something if they weren’t feeling it, so this is like the very best response I could have ever hoped for. Every single one replied and agreed in like a 10 minute period.
I never expected full participation! Their responses were just so full of excitement for me that I feel giddy and loved right now.
Anyone have any recommendations for Charleston?? I’ve already started brainstorming/researching (I know I’m not supposed to plan it myself but I also know my sister is going to want my input so I may as well look into it) and I am so, so excited.
Sorry this is an entirely gushy post all about me, I’m just really excited and since the bridesmaids email chain didn’t include me and I’m at work I have no one else to (!!!!) to. 🙂
