@MsGinkgo:  I prefer guys in regular clothes. I work with suit and tie folks and I’d rather not have suit and tie folks at home 😛

I am the same way, I feel so awkward dressed up. I look much better dressed casually than I do dressed up lol.

I know what your talking about though!

Yes!  I’ve noticed this.  I work in a company that is dress pants, button down shirt and tie every day… some guys look.. ahh… frumpy… or not put together but when we do something outside the office and they are in normal clothes they look a million times better!!!  I guess it just happens to some guys 🙂

@MsGinkgo:  Same as public servants have never done it for me, I don’t get the dressed up fixation either. If a guy is hot, he’s hot in whatever he has on and especially with nothing on.

While my DH is totally smokin’ hot now, he was a hot mess in a suit when he was younger!

I feel like I am this way if I try and dress up for business type events. I feel like I look so awkward in a suit, dress pants, button down shirt etc. No matter what I do it just doesn’t flatter my body type. If I dress up to go out with FI in a dress or something that’s fine. I often think it can just be a matter of if you feel uncomfortable in what you’re wearing it shows. So maybe those of us who are a lot more comfortable in casual clothes look better in them!

My FI don’t look good in anything but his boots, wranglers, t-shirt and ball cap. Suits just aint his thing. I think a lot of guys look better in street clothes.

Some guys just don’t know how to dress up properly.  You can a guy and put him in a well cut, tailored suit and he will look amazing.  Same guy in a poorly fit, saggy suit and he will look terrible.  I firmly think that anyone can look good dressed up if the clothes are of a decent quality and actaully fit right.

@MsGinkgo: Maybe he is uncomfortable in the dress clothes, so he always looks “wrong” in them. That would be my first guess.

Maybe his clothes don’t fit as well as you think (correct tailoring makes a ton of difference, even if the suit/shirt is the right size). Or they’re cheap or overly conservative (boring colors and patterns that don’t suit his age or personality), or he just isn’t comfortable or confident in them?

I’ve definitely known guys who seemed more at home and confident in casual wear, but I’ve never seen the dramatic difference you’re describing unless the fit was way, way off.

@MsGinkgo:  LOL What are his dress clothes like? I know someone who has this problem but it’s mainly because he only owns black suits and solid black ties which he wears with white or pale yellow dress shirts. Thus he tends to look like a funeral home director.

Men’s fashion has a ton of rules that most modern men don’t know about. It doesn’t really matter if a guy spends a lot of money on his clothing — if he’s not friendly with a reputable tailor, chances are he doesn’t look as sharp as he thinks he does.
