Hi, FutureMrs86! I have been going to the gym three times a week since October and am really seeing some results. I just had my first fitting for my dress last Wednesday and they actually will have to take it in a little bit (which I’m totally okay with). πŸ™‚ I go to Planet Fitness and always start off doing this Express 30 Minute Full Body Workout thing that has different weight machines. Then I usually move on to twenty to thirty minutes of cardio on an elliptical machine (occasionally on a treadmill to change things up). I find that light weight lifting followed by cardio has really been effective for me.

Darling Husband and I go to Gold’s Gym. I can’t stand the elliptical and treadmill, actually, that kind of stay-in-one-place cardio just feels like punishment! I prefer doing the bike or rowing machine for cardio. They’re more fun (and the rowing machine is an excellent upper body workout too).

For weight training, I really enjoy squats, the leg press, using the free weights, and any of the ab machines!

Though, if you’re aiming to lose weight, you’ll really have to change your diet. Can’t outrun Cheetos, haha. πŸ™‚

I love love love my cardio kickboxing group class. It’s my favorite…but we’re on a break now until fall because my instructor has two kids who are in sports and she won’t have time for us. πŸ™

I think taking classes regularly is a great way to start!  I love Spin classes and take them religiously.  The best thing about them is that nobody can really tell if you’re at the peak resistence since they can’t see your bike.  Its a great way for a newbie to get a great workout.

I also think any of the pump or sculpt classes are great

I love pretty much all group fitness classes. I don’t have a problem working out alone, but it’s so much easier and more motivating if someone else comes up with the routine. It forces you out of your comfort zone and it’s a good way to make friends. I have learned a lot about form from the instructors as well as nutrition. Personal preference, but I love it. I got to Lifetime Fitness and they have a million classes

@FutureMrs86: Planet Fitness is pretty great for sure! I think your goal is entirely possible. I believe I’ve lost around 21 pounds or so in the time that I have been going to the gym (and I did end up cheating and missing the gym for a few weeks during the holiday season in December). It defintely helps that your fiance is going to be with you at the gym. I have a gym buddy and it has helped tremendously to keep us both motivated (for the most part). πŸ™‚ I definitely do recommend the thirty minute workout though if they have it at your Planet Fitness. It’s quick and works really well! Also, about once or twice a month, I will go walking/jogging around a local park to change up the scenery a bit so I don’t get bored with working out. I’d probably recommend that too if you have a nice park nearby.

I hate cardio. I know i’m meant to do it but I really rarely do.

I love weights machines. Lateral pull down and squat machine are my best and therefore my favourite. I do bulk up, which I know, apparently according to everyone women simply can’t bulk up but I’m sorry, I can, and I enjoy it. I like being strong and I like looking strong.

I takes LOTS of classes at my gym every week. Everything from Spin (my absolute favorite form of cardio), zumba, pilates & bodyworks!
