Hi Bees, I know I have posted a few threads asking for dress advice, but you guys have been so helpful I just keep coming back! I was convinced that I was going to customize a dress through Casablanca; the 2104 in diamond white with the beading from 2052, and the pickups on the skirt converted to pleats. It had a lot of points I liked; some intricate beading, ruching across the tummy, a bit of an art deco flair, and a scoop neckline. I was also planning on adding beaded sash with a scalloped/ shaped edge to ease the transition from the beaded bodice to the skirt. I really liked the idea of customizing a dress and having something one of a kind, especially because I am a bridal consultant and I am not sure I’m 100% in love with the idea of seeing “my dress” on a zillion real life girls before the wedding. However, my fear is that because I have cherry picked elements from dresses to create something I like, am I trying too hard? I am excited about accessorizing this dress, which tends to be my style in general; a relatively basic outfit with unexpected and fun accessories.
Today we got a new dress in at work that I am really drawn to, Allure Couture C288. This dress is stunning on its own, and wouldn’t need accessorizing. It is champagne, which I love on my skintone, and something I was bummed I couldn’t do with the other. It also has beautiful embroidery and intricate beading, and feels a bit vintage (so would still go with the art deco vibe of the wedding, but in a different way). Everyone who has seen the dress in person is stunned and declares it a “showstopper”, and say they could see me wearing it. My best friend even said “that was kind of what I pictured the custom dress looking like”. However, there’s no ruching and I’m afraid it won’t be as flattering on me, it is a sweetheart neckline so it shows more cleavage than I had planned on, and I worry that by the time the wedding rolls around, I’ll have seen it on enough women that it won’t feel like “my” dress any longer. Another concern I have is that, from a distance, it will look like a typical lace gown. Heretofore I have NOT liked myself in lace; it just doesn’t feel like “me”. Up close this looks much more like embroidery with beading than lace, but that gets muddled once you’re a few feet away.
For reference, I can’t get a good sense of how either dress would look on me, so I don’t have pictures of me in the dresses; the 2104 and C288 are both size 10, I am a bridal 14. Street size 10-12, 5’5″, 36DD-DDD (depending on bra), and self conscious about my arms for what it’s worth. I have always had hourglass proportions no matter what size I am, although I am carrying more weight right now than I like. I am hoping to lose some weight before the wedding; 1 week into a diet and I’ve lost 3lbs! But I want to be realistic and find something that will suit me no matter what. I’m planning on including pictures of myself in a couple of other dresses for reference, as well as the ones in question. I’ve found that I prefer myself in mermaid/ fit n flare shapes.
Please, Bees! Thoughts? Different perspectives to think about this from? Objective insight? Am I just panicking about my original plan now that I’m getting closer to actually placing my order?
Casa 2104, the basis for my customization. I cannot get a photo of the 2052 to load, but the beading is darker silver and very art deco/ geometric. It would be more heavily beaded than what is currently on the dress.
