acg90 :

With your return, are they charging you the restocking fee?

I’m going through my own drama with MoissaniteCo, with the ring I received not matching the description on their website. I really wish I had seen this all before ordering with them. Their customer service is exceptional…until something goes wrong, and they get very defensive.

I had ordered a solitaire ring that’s a similar style to my engagement ring. This was meant to be my stand-in for holidays, etc. When I received it, the band looked much thinner than what I was expecting. Even my husband commented, and he isn’t the type to notice these things. The listing stated 2.5mm, but mine is 1.5mm at most.

The tags are still attached, and I’ve only had the ring for 4 days. They’ve offered an exchange but I would need to pick something right away so that they can apply the credit, but I don’t feel comfortable with this since I don’t know how much I can trust the listing without doing my own further research, which would require more time.

I asked for a refund so that I would have the luxury of time to decide, but they would charge me a restocking fee. I’m quite upset by this since I feel like I’m being forced to either buy another ring from them, or pay up for the privilege to return my ring even when they’ve been the misleading one.

I expressed these concerns to them and they now just want me to send it back and then they’ll decide whether they’ll charge me the restocking fee, based on what they think when they see it. I’m a bit weary of this since once I send this back to them without a firm agreement, they can say whatever they want.

It’s not about the money (restocking fee), but more about the principle.

This whole thing is making me feel uneasy frown

meepletree :  Wow, another misleading item description from Moissanite Co.

Sorry you’re dealing with this hassle. I don’t think you should be responsible for a restocking fee since the item you received was not as described. I would personally do a chargeback with my credit card company or file a dispute with PayPal and wash my hands of them.

meepletree :  Trust me, as soon as they see this post (and they will) they’ll contact you. Sad as it may be, this is what gets their attention.

I hope they get it together and just refund your money. It’s completely unethical to charge a restocking fee when the item wasn’t as described. It’s called false advertisement/misrepresentation of goods, something they’re quite good at. I agree with PP about disputing it with your card company or PayPal, depending on how you paid.

Fingers crossed this has a positive outcome!

meepletree :  Did you hear anything else from moissanite.co regarding the “restocking” fee? Of course it is *their* mistake if their website description is incorrect! I fail to see why they think you may have to pay for that!

ps. I hope you grabbed a google cache of their original website description.  No doubt they have since amended/corrected it….

I shipped the ring back and based on the tracking information, they received it this morning. I haven’t heard anything from them yet, but imagine it may take a day or two.

As some predictied, they did reach out to me following my post, but we didn’t come to a resolution. They wanted to see the ring in person first, which I can understand from their perspective. I could be a scammer for all they know. I did provide them with photos which I think makes it abundantly clear that the ring I received is definitely 2.5mm wide.

On the left is my wedding band which is 2.5mm wide. On the right is the ring I received from MoissaniteCo which was supposed to be 2.5mm wide.
