My future In-Laws (FH’s mom and aunt) threw me a bridal shower this weekend and it was so bizzare I just had to share it with everyone!
I was told that the shower was from 2-5 and so my mom planned to pick me up and we would both arrive shortly after 2:00. When I arrived there were only a few people there, and I had to search to find Future Mother-In-Law and her sister to let them know I was there. Once I found them, I had hoped that they would take me around and introduce me, as I didn’t really know anyone there. FH has a large family and only for things like weddings and showers do they all get together. Well, they didn’t introduce me so I took it upon myself to go around and introduce myself (I felt very rude not knowing who everyone was, as they showed up to a party for me!). People started to trickle in and around 3:00 I was told “we are running late! ETBEO – time to open your presents!”. So I started opening and trying to announce who the presents were from, but because I wasn’t familiar with everyone there, and their hand writing was sometimes messy, I had no idea what names were written on the card lol! I looked to Future Mother-In-Law, hoping she might come up and help me with names and pointing people out… no such luck. So I made my way through the presents and was then told time to cut the cake. So I cut and served the cake which everyone ate… and then left.
No games, no prizes, no bonbonniere’s, nothing! Guests came, watched me open presents, had a piece of cake and left. The whole thing was over at 4:00 LOL! I tried to go around and thank everyone for coming, but not knowing who everyone is made it very weird.
I later found out that they had put a store that we hadn’t even registered at on the invite! So people went to this store, only to be told no registry for us exists there. I have no idea where they got that information from, but it was on the invite lol. I was also told later that one of the aunts was not invited, but she came at the very beginning, left her VERY EXPENSIVE gift on the table and said to Future Mother-In-Law “if I were invited, I would stay, but since I’m not I just wanted to drop off a gift”.
All in all I had a good time, but felt bad for the guests. I am grateful to Future Mother-In-Law and FH’s Aunt for the shower but just thought the whole thing was rather funny. My maid of honour summed it up best when she said “well, that was effiencient” lol
