Oy my lovely bees….
Thing as have been crazy as of late but now that things have settled, I can find more time to post.
We had to change our wedding date! I’m getting married in Saint Augustine, and I had no idea the previous date I chose, 2.22.14 was also the same time as the Daytona 500. I mean why would I think of it? It’s in another city. Well, when I was trying to book a block of rooms for guests, I nearly pooped my britches when the gal at the Hilton told me it was going to be $359 a night!!!! That is when she told be about the race and tons of people stay in Saint Aug then drive 45 minutes to Daytona for the race.
I was beside myself to say the least.
After long talks with Fiance, we decided to move our date to a week later, 3.1.14, and after a few stressful days of calling vendors, everyone was available and worked with us to change the date. Whew.
The only thing I’m still pissed about is one of FI’s so called friends. He is a rather selfish type of guy. I wont go into past issues, but this guy only looks out for himself. When Fiance told him about the date change, he immediately says well, I have my kids that weekend so I can’t go. (He was also supposed to be bringing another friend to the wedding because he is not able to drive.) So Fiance was like, okay, C we will get R down to the wedding, so don’t you worry about it, I’m sorry you can’t make it.” All of a sudden, C was like, well let me talk to K (kids mom) and I will see what I can do.”
Are you kidding me? Fiance feel like C just doesn’t want to spend the $ for coming to the wedding and wants him, (FI) to offer. Fiance has given him two weeks to decide. Yes our wedding is 7 months away, but Fiance is tired of his friends passive agressive behavior. It has gotten really bad in the past year. Fiance trys to do the right thing by all of his friends, (one of the things that I love so much about him). I stay out of the situation, and just listen to Fiance when he needs to rant and tell him that whatever he wants to do, I support him. I just hate seeing his friend be a tool and add to our stress.
Anyone else had to change a date due to sports? 🙂

Yep! We had so much trouble finding a date that would work because of the Formula 1 Grand Prix and a bunch of music festivals.

@MissSangria: We’re getting married during the Florida/Georgia football game. We refused to change our date but it’s not as crazy as the 500 or Bike Week which starts the weekend after your wedding.

Daytona race is seriously OUT OF CONTROL. I used to go to the races every once in a while when I lived in FL and traffic was bad ALL the way rom Orlando coming into Daytona…
It’s a good thing to change it~~~ 🙂

@MissSangria: I can somewhat relate. Our wedding will be in Vegas and I had originally planned it for 11/18/13 but the Rock n Roll Marathon was the day before and they close the strip. So I didn’t want any issues with people flying in the day of the marathon so I moved it two weeks earlier.

My Fiance and I wanted to get married in the fall and with both of our families are HUGE Iowa Hawkeye football fans so were left with their bye weekend!

Thank goodness all your vendors were free that day! That must have been stressful.
On the friend issue- I think it’s unreasonable to expect a yes or no for an event 7 months away unless it is a very close family member or the bridal party. Just don’t offer to foot the bill for his expenses and let him sort out the rest. What he said doesn’t sound passive-aggressive to me, it just sounds like he has other obligations that weekend and needs time to figure out if he can still come. It does sound a little passive aggressive that he was given 2 weeks to decide whether to attend an event so far away though.

Oh girl I can relate. I was supposed to get married April 2013. We were making all the plans and then I got started on booking hotel blocks last summer and every single hotel room was booked or like $600. Turns out, my wedding day was Final 4 in Atlanta. Effin’ college basketball, I mean seriously, it’s not even professional sports like the World Series or something. The next available date at our venue was in July, the only reason it was open was because its miserablely hot and humid in Atlanta in July. We ended up having to move our wedding to September 2013.

I can understand. I would NEVER have gotten married in late March or early April due to college basketball. In fact, I had to remind my friend (I was MOH) that she shoul not get married the first weekend in April, but the second (which she did).
September is college football season but it’s early enough there aren’t any huge games that weekend. My family are football fans and I looked and they do play at home, but they play a big nobody.
And the best part…it’s not basketball season yet! If it was I would have picked a day we didn’t have a Saturday game.
I think I got lucky 9/21 is our anniversary and not in the spring

We’re a little worried about our wedding date being the day before a potential football playoff game here (Canadian Football runs July to November). If our team makes the playoffs, we won’t be able to go to the game due to the post wedding events we have planned (day after brunch followed by a tea at my parent’s place). But from the way our team’s been playing so far it doesn’t look like we’ll be making it to the playoffs anyways. There won’t be major traffic or hotel issues at all though, so we’re not worried about that. It’s more that we have season tickets which inculdes a ticket to the playoff game that has us ‘worried’.

@MissSangria: NASCAR GOT ME TOO!
We were trying to have the wedding on May 31, 2014 at a beach in Delaware. June 1 is the Nascar race in Dover (Monster Mile) so none of the hotels would block rooms for our guests. Dover is about 30 mins from the beach… so we ended up moving the wedding to April. Freaking Nascar.

@Lovemelovemyhorses: you don’t fully understand the situation so we can agree to disagree. 🙂

@beachbride1216: should I ask, Florida or Georgia fans? 😉 FI went to FSU. Go Noles!

Yikes! Glad you got the venue worked out!
We were slightly worried with it being commencement weekend at University of Wisconsin. A few venues were not available that date and hotels were a little more expensive but we ended up just far enough away from campus that it shouldn’t be an issue. We did tell people to book early though since it is a busy weekend.

@MissSangria: Thankfully my Fiance and I are neither, hence the reason why we were oblivious when we set the date. I’m a UCF Knight (I chose it over UF and FSU because it wasn’t a football school) and he went to uni at Exeter in the UK. However, our friends are 90% Gator grads so it’s pretty inevitable the wedding will be cheering for UF even though my dad and stepdad are big Noles fans. I gave them an accidental nod in that our tables will have blue tablecloths and orange rose centerpieces.
Though you would think I would know better since I was born and raised in Jacksonville so I used to sell tickets to the games as a fundraiser for elementary school and the F/G game is always the first weekend in November. FI is a huge Dallas Cowboys fan so I have been slowly assimilating and replacing my Jaguars gear with Cowboys gear.
