We usually get at least 10% knocked off the price. The only advice I can give is do your research and be firm on your number.

I think that cash is a huge bargaining chip.  As well as “if I buy it right now will you give me a discount”. I also think there’s no harm in asking.  Haggle away!

Definitely no harm in haggling! My husband has never bought a car (and many other things) without bargaining the price down a bit. I suck at haggling, I let him handle it lol.

And start lower than 10% because then there’s room to move.  You might even be abe to get 15-20%

Most places like cash and discount for it, but I actually think cars are the opposite.  I think most car places actually didnt like it when people pay cash cause they make a lot of money off the financing.  I’m not 100% on this, but if is the case, dont mention anything about payment until a number is agreed on.

My Dad expects 20% off the price immediately, then they start adding things in and he’ll go to multiple dealerships, get their price quote and play it with other dealerships.  He’s firm and is willing to back away at any minute.

I paid cash and got 20% off the top and a bunch of extras for paying with cash. Good luck!

Oh, here’s something my husband has always wanted to try when we buy a car.  He wants to just email a whole bunch of dealers (CC, not BCC) and tell them what we want and for how much and tell them the first one who responds and can provide it has a done deal.

@pinkshoes:  We’ve asked if they’d give us a lower price if we financed, since we can just pay it off as soon as we walked out, but the sales guy told us there’s no difference to them (him and the dealership) since you finance through like Toyota Motors so the dealership itself does not get anything more out of you if you finance. Which makes sense.
