Most make up counters will do your make up with a purchase. You would have to go to them but it is much cheaper.

@michiru4ever:  Agreed. Usually it’s around a $50 purchase and, obviously, you get to keep the products. It’s actually a pretty good deal. Just make sure you get your hair done first so it doesn’t get washed off!

for your wedding I think hair and makeup is a MUST unless you are complete fabu at doing it yourself (I am defintiely NOT, lol)  I agree with some of the other ladies, going to a make-up store like MAC is a good idea and you get to keep the makeup you purchase…your frugal side should love that Wink

I agree that you can definitely try makeup counters. I’ve done that for so many weddings and it’s really worked out! I used to work at Nordstrom in jewelry, near the makeup, and I’d see bridal parties all the freaking time come in. They didn’t even require a purchase, though most did for touch ups.

For myself, however, more than anything I wanted to get ready in a hotel suite with my girls all day so thats why I’m personally having hair/makeup come to me..and it IS pricey! Do I cringe when I think about the 600.00+ I’m spending on hair and makeup? Yes… But I’m really looking forward to the it because I love getting my hair and makeup done with my ladies.

@missdorado26:  Holy cow. I’m not from the area, so I can’t tell if that’s reasonable, but to me that is expensive. Rather than having them come to you, would it be too much trouble to go to them? I totally second the idea of going to a makeup counter to get it done. Sephora would give you a ton of different choices if you don’t want to pick a specific brand for everything. Some of them also do hair, but I am not sure to what extent. You can then go to a hair salon for getting updos or whatever styles. Even chain places like SuperCuts or Fantastic Cuts (or whatever it’s called) can do a good job on styling. Just ask around and see if there are any pictures or references from other clients. Good luck!

You can get make up done at a make up counter and get your hair done at a place like Dry Bar (http://www.thedrybar.com) or something. That was what I was planning to do before the Future Mother-In-Law insisted on having a hair/make up artist on site.

And the hair stylist / make up artist that we ended up getting is pretty much in the same price range as the quotes that you got… so I thought that was just the industry average

It’s standard rate. And airbrush does not wipe off in 5 hours. My person is Lorraine with Simply Beautiful…$85 for bride and $68 for attendants.
