Hello bees!
Anyone have any suggestions for makeup artists in the Nj/NY area who is willing to travel. My wedding is at 11 am so I will have to get up at the crack of dawn to get ready. I am looking for someone to come to a hotel room to do mine and my bridesmaids makeup. Also looking for someone who has experience with Indian/Asian skin tone. I called Reiko but she is booked on my wedding day 🙁

I have a trial with Shaili tomorrow. She’s in Woodbridge, NJ, but she travels. I’ll let you know how it goes. Her prices are really reasonable.

So this is the response from one of the queries I sent out for a price list:
“Trial is $150, bridal makeup is $250, attendent makeup is $150 and I charge an extra $50 for appointments before 8:00am.”
Are these rates normal? I feel like I’m getting ripped off and I could never ask my bridesmaids to pay that much to get their makeup done.
/end rant

yah I’m having issues for the trial prices. Of course, now that I’m 7 weeks out, I might be getting too close to worry about it. But over $100+ for a trial seems outrageous to me. I actually bought the temptu machine, thinking i coudl do it myself. I do use it and it looks great but I’m clueless for dramatic highlighting or something fun for my eyes. And I don’t want the stress. Someone suggested contacting NJ ppl because even with the travel fee, it usually ends up being much less for everyone in the bridal party.

I think that sometimes the trial fees are high with the intent of locking people in bc it’s cost prohibitive to shop around but so much. $125 for a makeup trial alone!? Wow maybe I’m screwing myself–my trials are only $85!

@Chimp: Yes VERY reasonable prices (sorry didn’t reply sooner). My trial was free because I booked her the day of the trial.

You should look into Nicole at Sally Duvall Makeup. She was terrific, and not outrageously expensive!
