I had Kelly Zhang do the makeup for my engagement photos. Her studio is based in Pasedena, but I know that she travels. I think that her prices are high (like what you mentioned), but I really think that the quality and service was great. Her facebook has tons of pictures of before and afters.

@bohemianbailie: I feel you. I had this one hairdresser quote me $300, and that wasn’t for trials, travel, etc. She MUST be out of her damn mind. Then she had the nerve to tell me, “Well whatever. Just make sure you check portfolios. You don’t want to look like a hot mess on your big day”.

I would check w/ beauty schools. They have students who are about to graduate that are fab @ what they do. I’d also check w/ hole-in-the-wall type salons. You’d be surprised…

Good luck! 🙂

That’s maybe slightly higher than average as far as price. I went with Carina from Flawless Faces. At the time of my wedding hair plus makeup for bride was $250, travel was included if you had at least 4-5 people in your party. For everyone other than the bride hair and makeup were $65 each. You can check out her reviews on projectwedding and weddingwire, they really do excellent work.

I agree that it’s much more expensive than I thought it would be. But when it comes to my pictures, I feel like make-up in particular was what made me feel the most bridal.  I used Kacee Geoffroy and Suzane Jimenez.  I would highly recommend both of them.

@bohemianbailie: haha! Great minds! If it helps any, I really loved working with Kacee.  She really listened to everything I said and made me look and feel beauitful for both my engagement, my trial, and then my wedding day hair.

@bohemianbailie: That’s totally true.  All those close-ups will just be all face.  Scary thought huh?

Your wedding day is not the day to scrimp when it comes to your wedding hair and makeup.  I would highly recommend spending the extra money to make sure you get exactly what you want and then take pictures to show them again on the day of.  I wish I had done this.  While I love my makeup, which my best friend and bridesmaid who is a makeup artist did, I really hated my hair.  I went with the person who always cut and highlighted it.  We did sort of a pretend trial run, but it didn’t include the hair piece that she was going to use for the bun (which turned out to be fake barbie hair that you can buy at Sally’s for $3.99, although she charged me $75 for that alone) and I hated how my hair looked the day of.  For me, it wasn’t about the money, I spent an arm and a leg on my hair the day of, but I felt bad going with anyone other than my hair stylist.  From afar, my hair looked pretty, but I didn’t like how it looked close up.  If I could change something about my wedding, this would be it.

I totally agree with @Mrs. Louboutin: about getting a FULL hair and make up trial.  I did a FULL On wedding day hair and make-up with lashes, veils, and the works.  Although I did them at different times since I had two different people.  But I also had Kacee for my engagement pictures.  It’s a really good idea to trial run people and so you aren’t surprised.

@bohemianbailie: Kaccee Geoffroy did my hair and makeup too, and she was awesome. It was totally worth it. And yes, I did have to pick my jaw off the floor….! But luckily, she is a ton of fun, very professional, and very good at what she does. So, it was worth it 🙂
