I’m looking for hair and makeup in or nearby Philadelphia. Preferably ones that will come to me, as opposed to me going to their salon. Any suggestions? If you got married/are getting married in/near Philly, who did you/are you going to use?!

I used Nichole Tooley, you can find her facebook page here – https://www.facebook.com/updosbynichole and my makeup was done by a friend, but she is a make-up artist at MAC/Sephora, and did an incredible job. They both traveled to the hotel, and were really reasonably priced.

@Mrs. Lyre: Thanks for the hair suggestion, I’ve been meaning to ask you that very question!
@starz88962: I haven’t worked with them yet, as I’m still 7 months out from my wedding, but I just booked Face The Occasion for makeup. She comes to you, and her prices are very reasonable.

@Reeniero: That is so funny, I emailed Face the Occasion yesterday! I thought their pricing is reasonable. Are you doing a consultation? and if so, when?

I’m using Studio 444. They do my aunt’s hair for galas and fancy events all the time and they do great work. I called around to salons in the city, but they are significantly more expensive that it’s going to cost for Studio 444 to come onsite to the hotel in the city. They do hair and makeup.

@starz88962: I am going to do a trial, but since I live in Los Angeles, it probably won’t be until the summer. I’m going to try to do my trial on the same day as our engagement photos, and all of that is still TBD.

Do not use Gary Charles. I was a Bridesmaid or Best Man in a wedding and they did a terrible job on my hair. The girl frizzed it out when there was no humidity that day.

I’m using Hair by Meghan for hair and Face the Occassion for make-up. Both were responsive (I’m planning from CA) and relatively reasonably priced (if there is such a thing in this wedding industrial complex). Both are coming to the hotel suite to do the girls. I’m not flying to Philly until the Monday before my Friday wedding, so I might try to schedule a trial for my hair on that Tuesday or Wednesday.
I almost went with Dylan Michael Cosmetics for make-up, but she charges a $25 “hold the date” fee. Not a deposit, but an additional fee just to make the appointment. I found this highly unethical and bad business practice on principle (however “nominal” the fee, as she put it), so I didn’t go with her. I believe, although I’m not 100% sure, that Jill Kozar at Up Your Do does the same thing.

Wow, so great to see so many Philly Bees!! Thanks for all of these suggestions, I will look into all of them. I already contacted Face the Occasion, and I really liked their pricing and thought it was reasonable (although I agree with @amyj1276, there is NO such thing when it comes to wedding planning really haha). I am in the process of scheduling a trial with them.
Thanks so much for your help, Bees!!
