Hey fellow bee. So I really need your advice. I had my first hair and makeup trial today, and I feel like my makeup is way too overdramtic. I loved the way my hair came out, but everytime I see a picture of myself I cringe. Everyone has said that my makeup looks great, but I feel like it’s just too much. Maybe it’s because I don’t use that much makeup and this was a total shock for me. I don’t feel like this is really me. The makeup artist said that color is good because it will stand out in the pictures, but I honesltly feel like I look like a clown 🙁 As you can probably tell, I don’t look all that happy in the picture.
What do you think? Am I being harsh with myself and the makeup looks great, or am I right to think that the makeup is just way over the top?
Thanks!!
Sorry the pictures are sideways, I can’t get them right side up :/

I think it looks very natural and gorgeous! Especially in the lighting of the second picture. It makes your eyes really pop without looking over done.

I think your makeup looks great! Your makeup has to be more dramatic than everyday life since it needs to show up in photos. I think you’re being way too hard on yourself and I honestly don’t see why you’re not happy with how it looks.
I think you look beautiful. The hair is the only thing I have a problem with… too flat at the crown and your curls almost look too piece-y/oily.

I know it’s the same makeup on your face in both pics, but I really like how everything looks in the second pic — it seems more natural and your eyes look gorgeous.
In the first, the eyeshadow is a little dark for my taste and I’m not the biggest fan of the sheen on the lipstick. Looks a bit dated.

soon2bmrsruiz: I don’t think it looks dramatic at all. You look beautiful.

The makeup is lovely. And you are even lovelier! I think you need some gloss over your lips they look a little dry, but pretty color on you! The eyes are gorgeous and you have great brows! I think you need a little more contouring and a drop more color on your cheeks.
The hair I think is a problem because that kind of style is not going to hold. You see how it didnt hold even just going into the car. You have beautiful hair and you don’t need all that product on it. It makes it flat and oily. You also need more lift on the crown and the sides swept up high. Can you find someone else to do your hair?

Thanks girls, you’re making me feel better! I do agree the the crown needs to be higher, it was something I was going to mention to the makeup artist if I decided to go with her. I’m surprised that my hair looks oily, I have extensions on which is blending in with my natural hair since I have super thin hair.
I agree with the lip color, gloss will definitely be requested, and maybe a little bit of a pinkish/reddish color?
The first picture was taken right after she finished, and the second picture was taken about 4 hours later. I will be having a 2nd hair and makeup trial on Saturday and she will be using airbrush makeup. I will definitely keep you all updated. I need my fellow bees!

You could always hit the drugstore and grab some tinted balm in a color you think you’d like and test it at your second trial run. L’oreal makes a “Color Riche balm” in a wide variety of shades. That will keep it subtle with some sheen, and bonus, no sticky gloss kisses.

I actually love the make-up. I think it’s tasteful and not too dramatic at all. The hair needs a lot of help, though. It’s hard to really see it in the photos, but it almost looks like wet hair pulled back in a clip. It has no softness or volume on the sides and top and it looks very slicked-back and flat/weighed down. I’d be finding a new stylist!

Wow. You look like a beautiful bride! Not dramatic at all. It’s captivating for all the right reasons. I’d probably be worried too as I don’t wear much make up, but you look stunning! Your OH is going to be knocked out when they see you for the first time on your wedding day!!

soon2bmrsruiz: it definitely looks natural- it’s more natural than my every day makeup :). More makeup can appear natural in photos on your wedding day So although it doesn’t feel like your normal self, it will look stunning in your wedding photos.

applecat: Good observation about the hair. I didn’t notice that because I was focsing mainly on the makeup, but you’re right about the hair having a wet-look to it. And it did get very frizzy after a couple of hours.
Here’s to hoping for a successful 2nd makeup and hair trials. It can be expesive if I have a couple of more trials!

it looks great – only looks dramatic because youre in your normal setting in normal clothes… imagine yourself in your dress stood in your venue – suddenly its not so dramatic… its perfect! 🙂
