I feel like an idiot for even having to ask this, but if I can’t ask the Hive, who can I ask?
I don’t wear makeup and “doing my hair” consists of “applying some sort of anti-frizz product and letting it air dry”. Basically, I live beneath a rock of beautification ignorance. So, when these magical fairies come in and do my hair and makeup on my wedding day, which one gets done first?

I had my makeup done first. I don’t think it really matters which one goes first though as long as you have the ability to touch up your makeup if needed.

Our hair was done first, mostly to keep it out of the way of the makeup person, and was re-sprayed after makeup.

Aha! So there’s apparently no established order! I feel like much less of a Beautification Failure.

I don’t think it matters all that much, but for us it made more sense. 3 out of 4 had long hair which took longer to do and would have been in the way…

Hmm, I have long hair and it wasn’t in the way of the makeup artist. I brushed it first so it wasn’t completely insane though.

When doing hair, I always prefer the makeup be done first ’cause I’m probably gonna spray the crap out of the hair and don’t want the makeup artist to try to move it or have to work around it.

I think it depends on how much makeup and how well your hair holds the style. My hair is very straight so we will do it last so that it is the freshest. If you more worried about the makeup staying fresh do that last.

If you’re getting an up-do, then they’ll probably do your hair first to get it out of your face for the makeup. If your hair will be down, they’ll probably stick it in a ponytail for the makeup, then do your hair afterward.
That was a good question though. I hadn’t thought of that until now.

From pictures that I’ve seen, I think that the hair stylist sets your hair (which might mean putting it in curls or pins or something) and then your makeup is done, and then your hair is finished. That’s the order that it’s going to be for us, I think (based on the schedule that my hair and makeup artists sent me.

I am going to get my makeup done first, because I am having my bangs styled with my hair, and I don’t want the makeup artist to move the bangs to do the makeup. I think it’s up to your personal preference.

My makeup person told me that typically the hair is done before the makeup.

@hilsy85 – – just beat me to it. In the weddings that I have been a bm in the brides (as well as our, bm’s) hair has been set in pin curls and sprayed then gone to sit in the maker up chair. Once the make up is done she goes back to hair and then finish finish up…..
EDIT – – PS – – for my own wedding my hair will be pin curl set then I’ll get my make up done then my hair will get finished.
