If you use a 30 volume developing lotion and go with maybe a 9 or 10A (ash) color, you can safely lift it to a lighter color. Some lady died my hair super dark reddish-black when I first moved here and went to the salon. I was horrified and took matters into my own hands. I went online and researched…purchased my own products…did my own color. I have been doing it since and it’s perfect every time.

You would need to invest in your own tools – they aren’t so expensive, though. I use Goldwell Topchic color and developing lotion. I started with the 30 volume lotion and did 2 parts lotion to 1 part color. It lifted my color to a dark ash blonde (looks very light brown – see pic below). I use 20 volume lotion and level 6NA (natural ash) color now. 1 part lotion to 1 part color. I have a Goldwell mixing bowl and measuring beaker. I also purchased a box of plastic gloves and an applicator brush (looks like a paint brush).

Do all the hair around your hairline (all the way around) first. Then start dividing into small sections on the front half of your head, applying only at the roots. Cover all your roots and then add the rest of the color through the length of your hair. Then for every time after that first time, DO NOT APPLY ANY COLOR TO YOUR LENGTHS!!! ROOTS ONLY. It should fix your color nicely! 🙂

i like the darker color, but if you’re ready for a change, go for it. i just wouldn’t go as blonde as pic #3. i don’t think it’s as flattering on you as the warmer blonde  🙂

when you dyed it brown did you have color on your hair already? if you did, that could be why the color becomes uneven as it fades- half your head has color on top of color and the other half is dyed over your natural color.

Somewhere between 1 and 2!  I really like how fresh and bright you look with blonde, but the dark is sexy!

@amanda2:  I think the dark color makes your eyes pop like crazy, and looks great with your skintone. The middle pictures is nice. I’m not as fond of the platinum blonde though. But the dark is fantastic.

You are a very lucky girl because you look great in all 3 colors.  But while the blonde, particularly the middle pic, is very pretty on you, the dark color with your eyes is stunning.

I have that problem too with my hair, I think it’s something to do with dye deposits in the ends of your hair. Do you just get your roots done, or the whole thing when you go in for a colour? I usually get my colourist to do a darker shade for the roots and sort of gradate it out.

I really like both the dark and the caramel (middle) shades on you. Not so much a fan of the lightest blonde, I just think it washes you out a bit (and I think hair always looks healthier when it’s darker). I think you could even do a colour that’s in between the top and middle pictures (or just add highlights to the darkest shade, which will help balance out the lighter roots/darker ends problem too).
