Hey Bees,
so as the title says, I am in a wedding next weekend, and I wanted my hair to look a little more natural for the pictures. I am naturally dark blonde, but had a dark blond/platinum balayage situation. I decided to use a Demi permanent dye to darken the root color, and then another Demi permanent color (slightly lighter than the root color) to go over the platinum to make it look very natural and sun kissed. WELL. My hair soaked up that dye like a sponge and now my hair is too dark! I really like the tone of it and think I would be perfectly happy with it if it were maybe one shade lighter. Does anyone have some tips for slightly fading new hair color? I’m desperate! But don’t want to kill my hair, either. TIA for any input!

Since it’s demipermanent, won’t it fade a bit? I realize it takes quite a few washes… but maybe that’s the route to go?

My advice would be to get to a salon ASAP. Messing around with home hair dye is a no-no (coming from someone who has missed the back of her head one too many times).

Just wash your hair a few times with a cheap shampoo or like head and shoulders. Demi’s don’t last long at all and the color will get taken out at least a little bit with a few shampoos.

snickerwickens : Wash it a couple times, it will def fade. I have dark blonde hair and it would never stay dark or red the few times i dyed it.

Shampoo multiple times… It should fade. Adding a dash of baking soda to the shampoo can make it fade faster.

Thanks for the advice everyone! Like I said, the fade from root to the lengths of the hair is perfect, and I love the overall “look” however (it now looks like a lower contrast, naturally occurring balayage), I just want it to be slightly lighter. I usually go 3 days or so between washes as my scalp doesn’t really produce much oil, but maybe a daily wash with head and shoulders will do the trick. Thanks again everyone!

snickerwickens : I have done that in the past, I just shampooed my hair about 8 times in a row, all at one time. Check your box. If it says it lasts 24 shampoos, you could do about 1/4 of that.

Clarifying shampoo! Just make sure you condition really well if you’re doing multiple shampoos.

irishbride2018 : Sorry I should have clarified – it was done with a professional brand demi permanent hair color (not a typical at-home hair color), and applied by at my house by my good friend who is a stylist/colorist. All I had to do with it was deciding the color I wanted and whether I wanted Demi or Permanent, and I chose Demi. The application itself is gorgeous, just darker than I anticipated/was prepared for lol. I just thought I’d come here for advice on how to fade it slightly, because I feel bad saying to my friend “thanks for colouring my hair! How do I make it go away?” Haha
