Anyone have issues with hair color not taking? I had mine done last month and within a week, it was all gone (semipermanent). I used shampoo for colored hair and only washed every other day. I KNOW this is not normal. What went wrong?

What brand did you use and was it done at a salon or at home?

I’m a hairstylist and maybe I can help. What color was your hair before you did the semi-permanent? If your hair was heavily highlighted or bleached blonde, it’s normal for the color to fade off quickly. It also depends on what kind of semi color you used. Did you do it at home or get it done at the salon? There could be many reasons why your color washed out regardless if you used color shampoo. Also what color was it? Reds tend to fade even faster than any other color.

it was done at an Aveda salon Dark brown on my mousy brown hair. One color allover too, no highlights.
I’m just shocked…a week?!

I do semi-permanent as well to cover my few grays and because I don’t want roots; and I find it does wash out too fast. And I don’t wash my hair a lot either,, maybe 3 or 4 times a week.. I use the dry shampoo in between to try to save the color. Mine is done at the salon. I get my grays at my sides mostly, and last time I got it done, I saw some gray strands 2 days later! I was so ticked off..

Ooh, I had the same question as the OP!

I’ve seen it happen before using semis, which is why I prefere not to use them (I am a Hairstylist). I’m actually surprised though for yours, as usually like a PP said, it happens with blonde when going darker, or reds as they fade very quickly. Semis usually fade out within 4-5 washes, or at least 3 weeks from my experience.
I would try a demi if you do not want to go the permanent route. It should last quite a bit longer then semis.

Oohhhh…this was a demi. I thought that was the same thing as semi, so I wrote that!

I had the same problem with an Aveda demi the last time I had mine died. It just didn’t seem to cover my greys very well and it’s mostly gone now after a month. I’m going to try a redken salon next time.
