I posted the other day for advice about coloring my hair darker. I have light blonde hair that I’ve been coloring at home for years and I wanted to go a little darker/warmer. Well, I went to a “color specialist” today at the salon and she put in lowlights that she said would look gorgeous. They did…until she washed my hair. It looks like she didn’t really do anything at all! My hair is maybe tinted a little bit darker… my husband says it looks exactly the same and can’t believe I spent almost $100 and 2 hours for nothing. Well, the stylist says she’s not happy with it and wants to re do it later next week. I am now wondering if I am going to have to pay the same amount again?? And what will she do differently the next time? Wouldn’t the same thing happen?? Anyone else have this issue??

I used to do hair and she should not charge you for re-doing the work if you’re not happy with it. I would ask her, but if she says she’s going to charge you then you need to speak to her manager. You asked for something, it was not delivered and they should fix it.
Take deep breaths. Sometimes this happens. She will need to leave it on longer and maybe stick you under the dryer to get the hair cuticle to open up more and accept the color. It happens. Don’t worry though, they’ll be able to fix it. I never met a head of hair I couldn’t color. 🙂

My hair is exactly the same. It will not hold colour or curl. The at home products held better than any salon ones I used. Not sure if it’s because the home versions have harsher chemicals or what it is.
If the at home versions are working for you and not damaging your hair too much, I’d stick with that. Save money and maybe recruit a friend to help you get highlights if that’s what you are going for.

The at home colors work fine to lighten my hair. But I wanted to go darker… that’s what doesn’t work with at home color because it just turns ashy/gray or fades back to light blonde within a week or so. And my hair is healthy… it’s not dry or overprocessed, the stylist even said how healthy it is. I hope it works the second time 🙁
