We’re having a beach wedding and it could get windy. That said, I HATE my hair up. I’d like to compromise and do something half up and half down. But I have thin hair. Here are some of the styles I like.
Do I need extensions?
I’ve never done them before. What are clip ons? Are they better? What is the average cost? Do I need to have my hair layered before getting them?
This is my actual hair:

You don’t need them, your hair is pretty long but it looks like you’re going for a lot of volume so I’d recommend them to anybody to give some extra body for a special occasion. Do not get permanently attached extensions, not only are they damaging (never let anybody tell you they aren’t.. it doesn’t matter how they are attached to your head, they will do some degree of damage) but the upkeep and initial installation is disgustingly expensive.
Here are a few links to great clip-in sets. Prices vary but for a good set of real human hair, remi (all hair lies from root to tip instead of a mix) you should be looking at 200 bucks. Because your hair is so long already, you will almost certainly not need to use all of them, just a couple to thicken things up. Always back comb the roots of the hair whereever you are going to put the clips so that they are secure and have something to grab on to.
Btw if you decide to go with headkandy, you can email them pics of yourself in natural light and they will color match you so you avoid ordering ones based on online swatches, which are never accurate.
Oh, and I wouldn’t layer your hair at all.

I don’t think you need extensions, I think it may look a LITTLE different from the pictures because your hair is probably three inches different in length. But extensions look beautiful no matter what. I’m in the same boat as you, beach wedding, wanting hair down, can’t decide, and want it longer. I will be doing extensions =)

you don’t need extensions but coming from someone who also has think hair and just wants to add a little weight, I purchased clip-in’s from LuxyHair.com last year and I can’t say enough good things about them.
I chose clip-ins because they’re supposedly better for your hair (less traction-alopecia) and I can choose to put them in or not on any given day. You can also put in less or more depending on what look you’re going for. You don’t need layered hair but the extensions will come with a more “blunt” cut across the bottom. I took mine to my regualr hairdresser, she clipped them in and then cut them to match my hair. Then as I was taking them out, I marked each clip with a different colour of nail polish and wrote it all down on a piece of paper so I would know which side of the head they went on. After two or three times using this guide I eventually just remembered the placement. I bought the 160g weight set but I before my weddingin June I’ll be buying only the 120g set because the 160 is SO.MUCH.HAIR!
feel free to pm me if you have any questions 🙂 Also, you can look up LuxyHair on youtube for tutorials on styling, care and how to pick a colour.

I have hair longer than yours, and thin too!! I work in the GTA but am in London, ON a lot, and there is a store there called K-Laba…the specialize in wigs/weaves/extensions. I also wanted volume, and not length, so I ended up purchasing ONE set at $69.99 and clips that I will have to sew in at $7.95. The lady was amazing…since I have a crazy blond/brown/red mix in my hair naturally, she spent more time with me than expected. As I was cashing out, she stopped, grabbed another set, just to make sure. She was very helpful. If you are getting your hair done, leave the styling up to your hair dresser, they know best.

I got clip-in extensions for mine, and I have other friends that did as well. Mine were about $85, and you can wear them anytime you want t little more “oomph” or length! I also have thin hair, so it’s nice to stick those babies in, and be able to do half-up styles without feeling self-conscious. I got mine longer than I’d probably want to use (16 inch), then took them to my hair dresser and she trimmed them to make them look more natural. I highly recommend. 🙂
