My wedding is just 2 months away and I’m trying to narrow down what I want to do with my hair. I’ve talked to my hair dresser and we discussed keeping my hair down. I’ve been trying to grow it out for our entire engagement and it’s long now…but my hair is naturally thin…although I have a lot of it! I’m thinking of doing a half up style as I will be wearing a veil and have a hair comb too.
I trust my hair dresser and she suggested hair extensions, less for the lenght because I have that covered, but more for body and holding of the curl. She said I have two options – clip in or Fusion extensions that will last longer. She said there is a possibility that the clip in kind will “fall” throughout the night and that I’d be more comfortable with the fusion kind.
I can’t decide what to do. Has anyone had experience with the fusion extensions vs. clip in? I know the clip in is cheaper but I’m willing to pay for the fusion kind if I get the look I want. With fusion extensions – how is the maintenace after? Do you brush and wash and style the same as regular hair?

I have never used the fusion extensions but they are real human hair and a more permanant choice. You treat them just like your normal hair and everyday wear. If you can afford fusion go for it!

I wear clip in extensions almost everyday, they are awesome and never come out! Most of the “permanent” extensions will destroy your hair when you finally take them out. For one night its not worth it!
Plus the clip-in are human hair as well. 🙂

I had fusion keratin extensions for around 3 years. I took them out last Summer because I was sick of the maintenance and I wanted to see what I looked like without them. I loved them!! And for the record, since the bonds were 100% keratin, they did not damage my hair, they actually did the opposite and promoted healthy growth. They looked and felt completely natural and most people didn’t know I had extensions. They blend into your hair a lot nicer than a weave or clip ins.
You can curl them and style them just like you would with your regular hair, however, there is a lot of maintenance involved. You have to make sure that you use sulphate free shampoo and conditioner, keep the bonds out of salt water (something to think about if you’re honeymooning somewhere tropical!), don’t apply any heat to the actual bonds (so be careful with your hairdryer, flat iron, etc.) and you have to be careful how you brush them. You go back after around 6 weeks for maintenance, where the bonds will get resealed and any that have fallen out can get put back in (so keep them if they fall out!) and then after another 6 weeks they can be taken out and redone.
Let me know if you need more info or want pics!

i have to disagree with PP here. i have had EVERY type of hair extension there is. the only ones, besides clip in, that didn’t damage my hair were the beaded clamped ones. the bonded wefts RUINED my hair. im serious. i would never suggest them to anyone because of the damage.
good luck with whatever you choose though !

i just use my clip ins for any time i want – soooo much easier and more comfortable than permanents!!!!!!! and they were perfect on my wedding day!!

I wore the clip ins and they worked great!

im not sure about how the extentions are now (havent worked in 2 years after having my son) but when i worked in a salon the bond extentions were nice but were a one time use. which really sucked because they are spendy. clip ins you can use over and over again. id talk to your stylist again and see if the bond ones are reuseable. and make sure if they are bonded that she puts them where the bonds wont show…. ive seen some that you can see the bonds….. not so pretty. but either choice will work great.

I also have long hair (lots of it, but thin), and I’m planning to wear my hair half up/half down with lots of curls. I bought the clip in extensions and they worked SO well, I did my trial a few weeks ago and it turned out great, and the extra volume from the extensions was perfect. I didn’t notice them being uncomfortable or falling at all throughout the day either.

Thanks for all the replys! The thought of having long curl-able hair for the wedding and after is very appealing. But the thought of the maintenance and the necessary upkeep required to help them last longer sort of sucks! And if it’s true about salt water and the fusion bonds…then that’ll impact my honeymoon.
I’m leaning towards the clip in kind. Does anyone have any pictures of their wedding hair (half up/down) with clip in extensions they can share?

I just got hot heads hair extensions! They tape in in ~1 in wide sections. I have a CRAP TON of hair so I needed a pack and a half of hair. It’s much more affordable than most other permanent methods.
My wedding is in August, so you may be thinking why did I get them now… the hot heads can be worn for 4-8 weeks, then reapplied 3-4 times. My thought process was that I’d wear them for a while to get used to them, learn how to style them, etc before the wedding. I really like the quality of the hair, they look great, etc. HOWEVER, they’re already starting to peel out a little bit (I THINK it’s because I do/teach hot yoga four or five times a week so I probably wash my hair more than is suggested for them/it gets really oily/sweaty. TMI?). They do come out really easily though with rubbing alcohol (another HUGE perk, no damage to YOUR hair!), so I think I’m going to remove them soon and have them retaped (it also only takes about an hour and a half to put in a whole head) the week before my wedding… that way I can wear my hair how I want and have (as a PP mentioned) “hollywood hair” for my honeymoon (the hot heads can be worn in salt and chlorine water as long as you rinse with clean water right after).
Sorry that was longer than anticipated, but I’d definitely look into a salon that does hotheads close to your wedding!

@skylar1224: Yep, I used clip in ones and wore my hair half-up half-down. My hair is sooooo fine and lifeless. I LOVED them and didn’t wanna take them out. They looked so real. I say go for it. You won’t be disappointed. Just remember to get the human hair ones though they are the most realistic looking. Well at least IMO they are.

That looks beautiful!! If you hair is so fine – did you fee like the flip in ones would fall out? Did the extensions hold the curl well for the night?

I have used extensions for years. I do not like the clip in kind.
I had fusion extensions for about 2 years, they were okay. They didnt damage my hair too much but then a stylist suggested tape in extensions. I decided to try them. LOVE! they are so much nicer than fusion, and make your hair look so much fuller. They are less damaging and MUCH easier to remove ( removal is where most of the damage occures for fusion extensions ) I suggest checking into tape extensions!

Clip ins! They’re super comfortable and I’ve never had one fall out. I bought mine at luxyhair.com. They look really natural, too–plus you can take them out at the end of the night!
