I’m not hair expert, but here’s my 2 cents:

I think your stylist chose the wrong color for your highlights, I think it should have been closer to your original color.

Your curls are really cute so it works, I don’t think you need to run out and get it fixed right away or anything.

Did she simply use plain lightener? Like abbyful said, she could have mixed her lightener with some colour that would be closer to your base colour. When you go back next month, I’d ask her to add some more VERY fine highlights and put a slightly darker colour wash over the whole thing. Did she use a cap or foils?

I like the dark-ish brown you had going on in your Christmas photo!

I think you should call the person who did your hair and tell them what you’re worried about. See if they can fix it without frying your hair. I’ve had this happen before and I called and told them after i got home that I didn’t like and it wasn’t what I wanted. They fixed it for free.

I’m a professional hair dresser and have been for 10 years now. those are not higlights, they are streaks. highlights say it in the name (they highlight the hair, making it look more tone on tone.). If you were looking more into a tone on tone, i would suggest you calling back your stylist and explaning that you are not happy with the result afters its been washed. we all have that expreience once in our lives, i mean we look amazing when we leav the salon (its been proffessionally styled) but once washed it might not be what we wanted. if they are a good salon and have a good reputaion, they will fix your hair free of charge (might charge to blow dry it though) just call them and explain you wanted tone on tone highlights. If you were my customer, I would just add a toner to fill in the steaks a little making them slightly darker and then just paint on extreemly small lighter ones, the whole effect would look amazing.

@LYBYANA: I second what you said! They should do a toner so the streaks look less ‘yellow’, and they should do it free of charge. I had that happen and the toner looked great for ~3-4 weeks, then the ‘yellow’ resurfaced. I just redyed it at home after that. By then though, the hair had taken a break and it didn’t look fried after all the chemical processes.

honestly, i think at one point, drastic high-lights like that were really in style. now, it seems a bit outdated. i would go get your hair re-done, and either get highlights that blend better, or maybe add another more neutral color.

If you have trouble communicating with your hairstylist (as I did) maybe just bring in some pictures of highlights that you do like? That’s what I did and it worked out great.
