so for the first time in a looonnnggggg time i have long hair, its almost 3/4’s down my back and its the longest it has been for at least 10yrs if not longer
anyways – it seems that every day im losing massive amount of hair – im now counting it and its about 25 strands a day and some days more. i cant see any patches of hairloss on my head but im still very worried and it doesnt seem thinner (i have fine hair but ALOT of it the hairdresser always says)
with short hair i never noticed it – am i noticing it more because my hair is so long that it looks like alot??
anyone else dealing with this?

I lose hair all the time. But I think it’s normal to lose like 30 pieces a day or something. Not sure….but I’ve never noticed that it makes a difference in how I look.
Stress may be a contributing factor. Are you tying your pony too tightly or brushing too hard? All that weight may be pulling extra hair out.

I have very long hair (nearly to my waist) and I used to average about 40 lost hairs a day. At my doctor’s recommendation I started taking a B-complex vitamin. It’s definately made a difference for me. Talk to your doctor and see what he/she recommends!

I was extremely worried about my hair loss as well, but worked with a hairstylist who has worked to cover my thinning hair by adding extensions.

I would say this is normal.. Mine falls out all the time, but I’m sure if you’re stressing you’re more prone to increased hair loss. I wouldn’t worry unless you have chunks falling out rather than pieces here and there. 🙂

I have hair to my waist and 25 strands a day is normal for me.. if you are concerned call your DR. But you notice it more when your hair is longer.

thanks so much…i feel a bit better about this.
i will pick up some Vit B first thing tomorrow and maybe some iron while im at it (i have no thyroid so taking some iron never hurts either)
since we decided to elope im no longer stressed about the wedding thing but counting my hair each day was starting to stress me out big time!

I certainly lose about 25 strands a day and I have fine and thin hair already. I don’t notice any patches, but notice the hair more when my hair is longer.

I notice hair loss more when I have long hair, too. I wouldn’t stress it!

I dont think that is an issue, I dont know if this is fact or not, but I think I heard it is normal to loose 100 strands A DAY….but I may be wrong.
However when I am in the shower I loose hunks of hair after I run my fingers through my hair with conditioner. I think it is totally normal cause I have thin and fine hair and it doesnt look like I am nearing baldness

Its normal. I have had long hair for years and definitely lose at least a few dozen everyday.
Tips: condition often (more the middle & bottom rather than scalp area), if you brush your hair when it’s wet start from the bottom and work your way up as to not tug and pull so much & then pull out additional healthy peices that arnt ready to come out, vit b is a plus 🙂

I have had long hair forever and when I shower I swear I pull out enough to weave into a coat or something. My hair is still quite thick though, so I am not too worried. It’s been like this for years.

I don’t have super long hair but a couple of months ago I was on a shot and it caused serious hair loss. My hairdresser told me to be sure to use a wide toothed comb instead of a brush and to use Kerastase Bain Age Recharge shampoo and Ciment anti-usure conditioner. Its pricey ($30 a bottle) but its made for women going through menopause and has really helped stop my breakage. Kerastase also makes a Lipo-Recharge hair serum that you put in your hair after a shower and not only helps stop breakage but makes new hair grow. I had been using drug store shampoo (herbal essence, fructise, etc) that was made to strengthen hair but my hairdresser said that all of the silicone in products like this weighed my hair down and made it break more.

I have long, thin, fine hair too, and I notice the same thing. It’s perfectly normal to lose up to 100 hairs a day, but you’d never notice if they weren’t so long!
Besides B vitamins, protein is really important. Your hair is made of keratin, which is a protein. All your protein comes directly from your diet, so make sure you have enough. Also, a lot of the more expensive brands of conditioner have protein in them, which can help but not nearly as much as having it in your diet.

My hair is close to waist length and I would say what you are experiencing is normal. Most likely you are losing the same amount but you just notice it so much more with very long hair. After I use a blow dryer I pick up what seems like handfulls from the floor!
