I am working with Sachiko http://www.sachikohairmake.com and I think she’s on the low to medium side of what I found but has SOOO many awesome reviews. She’ll do 6 services (hair or makeup each counts as 1 service) for $600 or 10 services for $1000 and stay with you for 10 hours that day to fix and touchup. So avg is $100 per service. The other makeup artists she works with are also around $80-$100 per service http://www.makeoverwithreiko.com  http://www.jacbeauty.com

If you want DIRT cheap, you can go to a chinatown hair salon like Mess or Cutting Edge where they’ll charge $55ish or go to DryBar for a blowout for like $40?

The midrange I’ve found are all around $150-$250 for either hair or makeup (not both). Sometimes the package will be around $300-$400 for bride’s hair + makeup and the BMs will be slightly cheaper.

Then the most expensive…well the sky is the limit. I’ve seen celeb stylists charge $500+ for a makeup application, which just isn’t worth it to me.

Hope this gives you some perspective!

i think i’m midrange, but i do believe in the quality of my makeup/hair people and so i definitely think they’re worth the money. i’m korean and so i already knew going into wedding planning that i’d have to get an asian makeup artist. lucky or me, there’s only a handful of really reliable and reputable ones. i just signed my contract with vickyc5 (http://www.vickyc5.com) last week. Their starting package is hair and makeup for bride + 3 bridesmaids = $1200 (including airbrush). You can choose to go to their studio (Chelsea or Bayside) or have them come onsite. My final package was $1400 for 2 facials, travel fees, hair and makeup for bride, 4 bms, and my mother. they’re traveling to my venue and they said it should take them about 4 hours total for 6 people. Trial makeup is $200 and I’m doing a casual engagement shoot so if I want makeup for that it’s $100. For $200-300 extra they’ll do this touch up package (haven’t decided whether to do it yet) where they change up your hair and makeup from photo shoot to ceremony to reception and make sure your makeup and hair is fabulous for the day.

kh85 Stay away from VickyC5 … Here’s my post!

This vendor is not who they appear to be.  They lure you in with promotions and discounts.  After you sign and you have an issue, they never call you back and worse yet, they will charge you additional.

It does not matter what is in the contract – they do their own thing and the customer service is the last time on their mind.  Also THEY ASK FOR THE BALANCE 10 DAYS BEFORE YOUR WEDDING!

After doing some research, this did cause a lot of stress for many brides in NYC.  They will hold your wedding hostage if you book with these people.

Here’s my chaotic story:

I signed up for their $1000 make up and hair promotion which included travel costs.  I met with Joann who a friend of a friend recommended.  As an Asian bride, it is very hard to find make up and hair people for your wedding.  All the top make and hair people were booked and I should have followed my gut when Joann and her team were pressuring me about this promotion expiring.

Against all logic, I succumbed to pressure.  I gave them $300 as a deposit.  However, if you do your research most HONEST vendor only want $100 to save the date.  During my conversation with Joann, I pointed out my venue was in the Bronx and she understand that I was waiting to hear back from my venue on availability for prep.  There was no additional charge or any mention that the Bronx is an issue.  This is all in the contract!!

After a few weeks, my venue told me I would not be able to use their space to prep at the time I requested.  I wrote back to VickyC5 and changed the location to a Manhattan location.  This was all through email – which should be a warning.

Here’s the rub, my venue got back to me and said I could use the location.  I mentioned to VickyC5 that I wanted to change the time slight and now go back to the original location.  Enter Michael our rude, dramatic customer representative.  He did not want to hear me out and actually had the audacity to question how ridiculous I was to assume VickyC5 would travel to the Bronx for FREE!!!  As unprofessional as Michael can be, he said he never dealt with such a dramatic bride and said he cant promise to call me back!  CANT PROMISE TO CALL ME BACK!  In this situation, they had the upper hand, I was out $300 and two months before my wedding — no one at VickyC5 cared enough to work with me

They just want your cash!

After a day, I got an email from Michael, stating all the additional charges requirements and 20% demanded gratitude necessary to make my wedding day happen.  My wedding was held hostage !
