If you don’t mind sharing, how much is your salon charging you for an updo? My salon quoted me $85 (which I am pretty sure includes a trial), and I’m wondering if that is too much. Based on some other posts I’ve read on the general boards, I think it is, but then again it’s such a local topic that I thought I’d ask for your input too. My salon is right in Buckhead, so that is probably part of the cost.
Thanks!

That actually doesn’t sound too bad to me! I’ve been trying to price out "wedding hair and make-up" and I keep coming up with around $300 – $350 for both. I think I may be making a mistake by saying it’s for a wedding!

I got married in CA, but my wedding do was about $50. I’m sure you can find a cheaper place to do hair in Atlanta too.
My hair stylist does cuts & styles out of her own house, and gives me great cuts at a great price. She’s done up-do’s for weddings as well (she used to work in a salon, but now has another job). If you’d like, PM me for her contact info and you can ask what her prices are. She’s really great 🙂

I honestly havent’ gotten around to this part yet, but have looked into studios that come to you and also do a trial hair run and makeup also.
I’m not doing the whole updo. Half up half down most likely.

I have a friend who is getting married in December-so she’s a bit ahead of me in the planning process. She is using Formal Faces for her hair and makeup-and has offered it to her bridesmaids as well. They will actually come to your location. I know for the bridesmaids the cost for hair and makeup is $125; just hair $80 and just makeup is $70. I’m in the wedding, so not something I’m willing to pay just to be a bridesmaid-but for my wedding in February-it may totally be worth it!

My really good friend is doing my hair and makeup. She is awesome! Since she is a friend of mine she is giving me these services as my wedding gift.
She normally charges $150 for hair and $150 for makeup this includes a trial for both.
I live Out of Town from her so I am not getting a trail, however she has been doing my hair and makeup for years, so I am not worried one bit. I am planning to give her a nice fat tip!!
I would pay if she didn’t insist on "giving" me the services as her gift. She is worth every penny!
FYI – im not from Atlanta But I would imagine the cost is similar in St Louis.

I used Cortney Nelms (http://www.hairbycortney.com) – she comes to you, and she’s so good at what she does!

I used a small salon in N.GA and it was $100 for my wedding up-do (including 2 hour trial). I thought that was a fair price given that I typically pay $85 or more for a bridesmaid up-do with no trial at my typical salon in Alpharetta.

I second Cortney Nelms!!!!
She was AMAZING!
I got married June 13th. She came to my hotel, got their early and even did an extra bridesmaid that I didn’t anticipate.
My hair for day of and trial was $100.00
My bridesmaid’s all had updo’s at $65.00 each.
My mom had a blowout and style for $55.00.
Cortney does awesome work and she’s just a great person. I highly recommend her!She kept me calm that day as well when our hectic schedule got behind.
Tell her Alicia sent you!

Curious – if you used Cortney for hair, did you have someone else come in for make-up?

Cortney doesn’t do makeup, unfortunately – but I’m sure she has recommendations for someone who will!

Thanks so much for sharing this information with me. I feel much better about the costs now. I just have never gotten my hair done so I had no clue!
