I am having 4 bridesmaids and myself getting hair and makeup done. There is only one artist doing both hair and makeup. My artist told me it takes about 30-45 minutes for each service (meaning that each girl would take an average of 1 hour 15 minutes). I’m guessing this means I need a few hours and the first girl is going to have to come super early and wait around. We’re doing everything on-site at the hotel. Just feel bad that they’re going to have to sit around for such a long time. Potentially the first girl will have her hair and makeup done at 9:30 and the wedding isn’t until 5pm. Is this normal? Any ideas? Thanks!

I’d have more than one hairdresser or she could go have lunch/relax afterward. I’d Have the first girl get a makeup touch up though after everyone is done.

@lawbride88: I’d be upset if I was the bridesmaid who had to report at 9:30, then wait around all day being careful not to get dirty like a little kid on picture day

I’m in the same situation.. I hired a MUA that also does hair.. I have 4 bridesmaids too.. All of us are getting our makeup done but I will have someone else ( my cousin who is a stylist in California) be doing my hair.. She is doing it as a gift and she will only be doing my hair.. My sister who Is my moh is getting her hair done elsewhere from her regular salon lady..my mom is also wanting to get hair and makeup done so there will be some waiting.. My ceremony starts at 5 pm., we are getting ready at my other sisters house so I think he can start with her first, then my mom etc.. Maybe you can start with family first since they don’t seem to mind to much.. Providing snacks and drinks help… Also maybe a movie or the radio with music can br entertaining..I’m supplying fruit trays, veggie trays, sub sandwiches, cookies, water, juice, mimosas and wine.

@Overjoyed: it’s a wedding–I’m pretty sure I’d expect it and entertain myself. A book, my laptop, go somewhere for lunch, etc. You don’t have to put on the dress just because your hair/makeup are done.
I think that start time is extreme though. Is one person doing their hair and makeup?

Thanks guys! Only one woman for hair AND makeup because it’s such a small party she’s not going to bring anyone which I get. What I think I could do is buy some time by having them finish up hair/makeup while we do photos. We really only need them for some of the photos certainly not the whole hour. I will just have to ply them with mimosas and laughter, right? Do you think that’s an ok solution?
